The Director of Philanthropy Operations is responsible for directing the Florida Business Unit (BU) Development Operations Team in support of the annual Florida Fundraising Strategy as set by the Florida Director of Philanthropy and Florida Executive Director. The Director of Philanthropy Operations is responsible for co-creating a vision for the Philanthropy Operations team with the Florida Director of Philanthropy, directing all aspects of the four key strategic areas within the Florida development program; donor engagement and events, donor communications, major gift management, and philanthropy operations (gift coding/research/administration/project management). They will manage a team that handles gift processing, fundraising and financial reporting, events and trips, research, prospect management activity, donor engagement and stewardship, volunteer management, and pipeline building. During fundraising campaigns, they collaborate with BU leadership and direct the operations of the BU's comprehensive campaign, ensuring that the campaign operating plan, timeline, deliverables and desired fundraising targets are met.

The Director of Philanthropy Operations will drive effective management and processes for all four areas of philanthropy operations with the overall objective of optimal support to maximize essential fundraiser time "out the door." They will hold their direct reports accountable to achieve Philanthropy Operations measurable goals and objectives as set by the annual fundraising strategy and plan with the Director of Philanthropy.

Essential Functions:

The Director of Philanthropy Operations proactively works towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program by designing, developing and coordinating plans and related tactics and overseeing all day-to-day tasks of development operations. They work closely with the Director of Philanthropy to set measurable goals and metrics for programmatic success, building a strong donor/prospect pipeline, increasing accountability and building a fundraising program that can meet and exceed market potential. They manage a team responsible for principal and major gifts fundraising support, direct accurate and timely gift processing, and following processes to ensure maximum fundraising effectiveness. They oversee donor/prospect pipeline development and efforts to build strong principal and major gift portfolios. They manage prospect research, prospect assignments, fundraiser activity accountability and effective portfolio management. The Director of Philanthropy Operations aligns fundraising and program activities to ensure all prospect management and solicitation activities are coordinated, strategic, and donor-centered in approach. They track fundraising progress, managing the production of reports for senior leadership on fundraising results and managing the annual department plan and goal setting processes. They ensure that solicitations meet TNC standards, increase flexibility of funding and that donor designations are honored through the revenue allocation review process.

They oversee all events and event staff, ensuring that events and trips follow TNC protocols, "best in class" standards, and add strategic value/PG & MG pipeline building necessary for increasing fundraising year over year, contributing the highest ROI possible for fundraising success. The Director of Philanthropy Operation's will oversee the creation of an annual events strategy with the Director of Philanthropy to fulfill the annual fundraising plan which includes coordinating with global, PG, and other BU event strategies. They will help create compelling programmatic content and effective and innovative events to achieve long-term fundraising goals. The Director of Philanthropy Operations works with development and chapter leadership to ensure alignment, teamwork and teambuilding, management and staff empowerment that fosters a positive and inclusive environment. The Director will work with teams to establish and track measures and lead indicators of progress and success, such as BU PPI and PbD Continuum tracking. They will serve as key team member for the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team, including new, innovative tools such as AI, advanced wealth screening, and communication innovation. In times of campaign, they oversee all non-direct fundraising activity of a comprehensive campaign.

The Director will reinforce consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provide direction related to their relevant field(s). They are responsible for ensuring programmatic work is a collaborative and well-integrated effort within philanthropy, including organizing internal communications for their area. They will lead various activities, develop complex processes, project outcomes, and initiate solutions to improve effectiveness. They will leverage constructive and effective relationships with a wide range of people, including senior management, conservation staff, and financial/legal advisors.

Responsibilities & Scope

  • Broad, proactive management responsibility for four or more administrative or professional staff, including training, professional development, establishing clear expectations, setting "stretch" objectives, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day work.

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers." Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $108,00.00 - $135,000.00. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
