Position SummaryThe Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services is responsible for performing retrospective and concurrent quality and financial performance improvement assessments/reviews for all procedural areas including perioperative services, cath lab, and VIRC. Working with department leaders, the Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will design procedures and methodologies for performance evaluation, revenue reporting, and supply/cost analysis and provide strategies for efficient delivery of high-quality patient care.
The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will develop, evaluate, and maintain creative, progressive, internal documentation and external reports to support the operational and strategic needs of the hospital. The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will be responsible to conduct rigorous and systematic analysis of quality, revenue, and supply data; monitoring and analysis of clinical and non-clinical data; attend regularly scheduled meetings; design and implement data collection tools.
The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will liaison with other hospital leaders to manage the day to day operations of perioperative supply chain including inventory management, quality control and value analysis ensuring there are appropriate supplies for surgical cases and adequate equipment in good working condition to meet the demand throughout the division. Plans and replaces capital equipment within the division. Forecasts and adheres to the capital acquisition plan ensuring capital equipment is purchased within the timeline outlined by Finance.
The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will be responsible and accountable for managing the business activities throughout all procedural areas, including equipment & supply management, budgeting, purchasing contracts and supply chain practices. Participates in projects within the division related to supply chain and equipment logistics, work redesign and process re-engineering.
The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will manage the day-to-day operations of the surgery scheduling team, using direct oversight to maintain an efficient schedule, to include participation in block committee meetings, perioperative steering committee, and the appropriate governance council meetings. The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services will create and maintain active relationships with surgeons and their staff to ensure ease of access and adherence to policies set by governing committees. The Director Perioperative Services & Physician Services manages the charge auditing process for procedural areas.
The Director of Perioperative Services & Physician Relations has the following duties and responsibilities:Provides leadership and operational guidance for numerous areas of responsibility as required for safe, efficient, and effe100ctive operations. This includes personnel functions such as recruitment, hiring, firing, counseling, evaluations, and salary changes.
Requires knowledge and skill to competently assess and evaluate employee performance, along with in-depth knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
Seeks and retains qualified personnel to support skill level required for appropriate staffing and to meet operational goals established for departments.
Recommends staffing patterns for safe, effective patient care.
Maintains flexible staffing and appropriate mix of full time, part time, and PRN staff.
Develop and oversee implementation of policies, procedures, and standards that direct operations, while creating operational efficiency and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Improves operational performance and procedural area efficiency using analytics and by identifying opportunities for improvement.
Establishes and recommends processes for improvement. Consults with Senior Leaders and Physicians to develop short- and long-range goals and develops/monitors actions to attain and sustain agreed upon goals.
Ensures the integration of performance improvement (PI) methodology into operations. Monitors and ensures compliance of PI projects with policies and procedures as well as safety, environmental and infection control guidelines.
Uses benchmark data from internal and external sources, along with input from subject matter experts, to identify opportunities for performance improvement to optimize services delivered.
Presents a comprehensive view of the entity's performance improvement outcomes, process and outcome trends, and effectiveness of strategies and works directly with entity leadership and front-line staff to improve outcomes.
Create a culture of continuous improvement and accountability through a data driven approach.
Identifies/develops tools and analytics for ongoing measurement and rapid cycle change as well as a sustainability plan.
Provides Leadership access to strategic data, procedural reports, financial reports, monthly operating variances, budget/case volume reports. Assists in aligning Hospital procedural objectives and strategies in alignment with System strategic plans.
Work in collaboration with hospital leadership, physicians, and other key stakeholders to develop strategic, business innovation, growth, and marketing plans within area of responsibility and to ensure strategic alignment with operations.
Manages Hospital strategic goal progression and execution of actions plans. Refines and updates Hospital strategic physician work force plans.
Collaborates with medical staff, hospital, and other service providers to develop and/or enhance programs and service delivery.
Works with Operational and Procedural Leaders to manage fiscal resources, developing programs/ department financial goals in concert with Hospital mission and vision to achieve strategies, and maintaining expenditures within approved budget.
Evaluates operational needs for new products, equipment and services while prioritizing Hospital strategic imperatives along with Physician input.
Assists Senior Leadership in developing, coordinating, and administering special projects as assigned.
EducationBachelor's Degree Nursing Required
Master's Degree Nursing or related healthcare field Preferred
Experience3 Years Experience as a registered nurse including 1 year in a leadership role (manager or above) Required
Perioperative / Surgical Services Strongly Preferred
Physician / Provider Relations Experience A Plus
Licenses and CertificationsRN - Registered Nurse Upon Hire Required
Other Certification in nursing administration/clinical specialty with in 12 Months Preferred
SkillsExcellent analytical ability and the capability to apply those analytics to operational improvement
Experience within a complex healthcare organization - ideally within hospital >150 beds or health system or
large physician group/practice
Firm understanding of organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and design - especially within healthcare
Good business insight and intuition - able to quickly identify problems and work with people to resolve them
Trained in Lean / Six Sigma methodology
Trained in Project Management methodology
