Director of Payroll

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Work Location: Remote

The Director of Payroll is responsible for leading all payroll operations across a multi-state home health organization. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and continuous improvement of payroll processes and systems.

This position will directly manage one Payroll Manager, who oversees the day-to-day payroll team. The Director will provide strategic oversight, partner closely with Finance and HR leadership, and serve as the organization's payroll subject matter expert.

  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight of the payroll function across multiple states and entities.
  • Directly manage the Payroll Manager and support the overall payroll team through coaching, development, and accountability.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time for all employees.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings, quarterly and annual reporting, W-2 processing, and payroll audits.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Benefits, and Operations to ensure payroll changes are processed accurately.
  • Develop, improve, and document payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Lead payroll system enhancements, testing, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze payroll metrics and prepare reports for executive leadership.
  • Resolve complex payroll issues while providing exceptional customer service to employees and leaders.
  • Support acquisitions, new locations, and organizational growth initiatives as they relate to payroll operations.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all payroll and employee information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting organizations with 1,000+ employees.
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership teams.
