Role Overview:

The Director of Origination is responsible for leading the company's utility origination efforts across the Eastern United States and Canada, driving the development and execution of long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other revenue contracts for utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects under development.

This leadership role manages a team of origination professionals and is accountable for identifying, structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions with regulated utilities, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, load-serving entities, and other wholesale market participants. The Senior Director will play a critical role in shaping the company's commercial strategy, advancing project commercialization efforts, and delivering contracted revenue streams that support the development and financing of renewable energy assets.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience negotiating utility-scale renewable energy transactions, a strong understanding of North American power markets, established utility relationships across the Eastern U.S. and Canada, and a proven track record of closing complex energy transactions. Main responsibilities:

  • Lead the sourcing, structuring, negotiation, and execution of long-term PPAs and other offtake arrangements for utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with regulated utilities, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, and other energy buyers throughout the Eastern U.S. and Canada.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and contract execution efforts with counterparties, ensuring alignment with company objectives and risk management standards.
  • Evaluate market opportunities, customer procurement strategies, resource plans, and regulatory developments to identify new contracting opportunities.
  • Provide commercial leadership during utility procurement processes, including competitive solicitations, bilateral negotiations, and RFP responses.
  • Serve as the primary commercial interface between customers and internal project teams throughout the transaction lifecycle.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop and refine the company's commercial strategy, market entry plans, and customer engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with development, finance, legal, transmission, regulatory, and engineering teams to advance project commercialization activities.
  • Support project financing initiatives, including tax equity, debt financing, cash equity, and M&A transactions by providing commercial analysis and market insights.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop innovative commercial structures and customer solutions that enhance project competitiveness.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.
