Director of Oncology Services. This role provides overall leadership and operational oversight for a comprehensive oncology program, ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and team performance.
Position OverviewThe Director of Oncology Services is responsible for the overall direction, planning, and performance of the oncology department. This leader will oversee clinical and operational functions, manage departmental budgets, drive quality and performance improvement initiatives, and foster strong partnerships with physicians, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing oncology services, optimizing operations, supporting staff development, and ensuring an outstanding experience for patients and families throughout the cancer care continuum.
Responsibilities- Provide strategic and operational leadership for all oncology service lines and designated work units.
- Develop, manage, and monitor operational and capital budgets.
- Implement, evaluate, and continuously improve oncology services and programs.
- Lead quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, providers, and key stakeholders.
- Drive staffing effectiveness, workforce engagement, and operational efficiency.
- Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement action plans to achieve goals.
- Lead special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
- Supervise and develop a team of 50+ employees.
QualificationsRequired: - Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Allied Health, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of healthcare administration experience.
Preferred- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Preferred- Five or more years of progressive management experience.
- Prior oncology and/or infusion therapy leadership experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory and legal requirements.
- Knowledge of oncology operations, clinical workflows, and industry-related equipment.
- Understanding of oncology patient safety considerations and treatment-related risks.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex departmental operations and manage large teams.
- Experience with operational and capital budgeting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of hospital and ambulatory billing processes.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and team-building abilities.
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism, discretion, and accountability.
Leadership Scope- Direct oversight of a multidisciplinary oncology team.
