Director of Nursing (DON) Job Summary

In keeping with our organization's goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Director of Nursing (DON) plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services to all Residents in the facility. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the planning, development, and overall operation of the Nursing Department, ensuring Residents receive quality care 24 hours a day.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Ensuring nursing staff is providing quality and appropriate resident/patient care that meets or exceeds company and regulatory standards
• Ensuring compliance with state, federal, and licensing agency regulatory standards
• Leading and/or participating in Quality Improvement (QI) groups and other multidisciplinary meetings
• May assist with recruiting, hiring, providing orientation/training, and retaining a sufficient number of qualified staff to carry out the responsibilities of nursing services
• Ensuring employee performance meets or exceeds expectations and periodic performance appraisals are conducted on a timely basis
• Assists with scheduling and performing rounds to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care
• Adheres to scope of practice limitations based on qualifications
• May occasionally be required to perform patient care duties
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Active RN License in the State of Pennsylvania
• Minimum of 1 year professional nursing experience in long-term care setting
• Minimum of 2 years experience working as a DON
• Possess a working knowledge and ability to apply standards of professional nursing practice in job situations
• Ability to develop nursing policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards, and facility philosophy of care
• Knowledge of and ability to apply current principles of infection control to facility and resident-specific situations
• Knowledge of MDS and Care Planning Process
• Current knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations that apply to practice of nursing in long-term care
