Director of Nursing ( DON ) Job Summary:The Director of Nursing ( DON ) is responsible to provide nursing management, set resident standards for all direct care providers and provide complete supervision and management of the nursing department. Has twenty- four (24) hour responsibility, authority, and accountability for the management of nursing care for residents and the supervision of the nursing staff.
Director of Nursing ( DON ) Major Duties/Critical Tasks:- Assume responsibility for the development of nursing service objectives and performance standards of nursing practice for each category of nursing personnel
- Assume accountability for the organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures
- Interview, select, and hire staff both professional and non-professional clinical staff who will plan, provide, and evaluate care of the elderly and chronically ill residents
- Evaluate the quality and productivity of the nursing workload
- Analyze and evaluate nursing staff ratio based on acuity and resident's needs
- Interpret policy and procedure internally for nursing staff, all ancillary staff, and externally for community and regulatory agencies
- Direct, evaluate and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary
- Plan and direct nursing staff orientation, in service education, and competency testing
- Assess resident care needs and assist in the development of individualized plans of resident care
- Assume responsibility for implementation of Clinical and Prospective Payment System Minimum Data Set completion schedule
- Assess resident pre-admission and/or admission information and determine appropriate level of care
- Assume responsibility for development and implementation of nursing rehabilitation and restorative programs
Director of Nursing ( DON ) Required Education/Experience:- Diploma from an accredited school of nursing
- Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN ) in the State of practice
- Management experience
