How You Will Make an Impact:

The Director of Mines is responsible for the performance and development of Atlas' fixed plant mining organization. This role leads, coaches, and develops plant managers, maintenance managers, and site leadership teams-building leadership capability, driving accountability, and cultivating a high-performing culture centered on safety and operational excellence. Uniting mining, processing, and maintenance into one operating model, this leader sets clear expectations and delivers on safety, production, quality, and financial commitments while developing future leaders and building resilient operations that support Atlas' long-term growth.
Responsibilities
Safety & Culture
  • Champion a world-class safety culture where safety is embedded in every decision and activity.
  • Build a culture of accountability, ownership, urgency, and pride across the organization.
  • Uphold compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company requirements.
  • Strengthen workforce engagement through visible leadership and clear expectations.
Operational Leadership
  • Lead fixed plant mining operations to safely and consistently meet production, quality, and customer commitments.
  • Establish operating standards, leadership routines, and performance expectations across all sites.
  • Drive operational excellence through disciplined execution, performance management, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive effective communication and collaboration across functions and locations.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop operating plans that support company objectives and growth.
Maintenance & Reliability
  • Establish a reliability-focused operating model that integrates Operations and Maintenance.
  • Improve equipment availability, asset utilization, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Drive preventive and predictive maintenance programs that reduce downtime and improve performance.
  • Lead structured problem-solving and root cause analysis for recurring operational and equipment issues.
  • Ensure maintenance planning, inventory strategies, and resource allocation align with operational priorities.
People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop plant managers, maintenance managers, and site leadership teams.
  • Build leadership capability through talent development, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Align organizational skills, structure, and resources to support current and future business needs.
  • Foster employee engagement, development, and retention across all operating locations.
Financial Performance
  • Deliver operational and financial commitments through effective cost management and resource allocation.
  • Manage budgets, staffing plans, and operating expenditures.
  • Improve productivity, efficiency, and cost visibility across the organization.
  • Leverage operational and financial metrics to guide sound business decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, asset utilization, and return on invested capital.
Continuous Improvement, Standardization & Technology
  • Standardize operating and maintenance practices across all locations to create consistency and predictable performance.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies that impact safety, reliability, productivity, or cost.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance and scalability.
  • Implement technologies, automation, and data tools that improve safety, reliability, productivity, and decision-making.
  • Leverage operational data and reporting to strengthen performance visibility and operational effectiveness.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and best practices that advance Atlas' long-term operating model and competitiveness.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale mining, aggregates, industrial minerals, manufacturing, or other process-driven operations.
  • Proven experience leading operations, maintenance, safety, and financial performance through subordinate leaders.
  • Strong understanding of fixed plant operations, equipment reliability, maintenance systems, and operational process flow.
  • Experience building high-performing teams and creating cultures centered on safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, operating costs, productivity metrics, and business performance.
  • Ability to drive organizational change, standardization, and continuous improvement across multiple operating locations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Willingness to relocate to the Midland/Odessa region and ability to travel regularly to all operating locations.
Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial), Business, or a related technical discipline; equivalent combinations of education and relevant leadership experience will be considered.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced business degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications related to operations, maintenance, reliability, project management, finance, or continuous improvement.

Work Location & Travel Requirements
  • Location: Midland/Odessa, TX
  • Work Environment: (Office, Field, Shop, Outdoors, etc.)
  • Travel: Regular travel to all operating locations

Schedule/Work Arrangement:
  • Monday - Friday (Some holidays and weekends as needed)

Physical Demands:
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach and move about the site/facility.
  • Frequently lift 65 lbs. or more.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct supervision to assigned employees, including responsibility for work assignments, performance management, coaching and development, and input into hiring, disciplinary, and compensation decisions
