What Your Day Looks Like: The
Director of Medical Staff Services provides strategic and operational leadership for Medical Staff Services across the health system and serves as a key partner to the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Staff leadership, health system executives, and clinical and operational leaders across all clinical care settings.
Essential Responsibilities- Medical Staff Governance - Serves as the primary administrative leader supporting the organized medical staff and its governance structure.
- Credentialing and Privileging - Directs the complete credentialing and privileging life cycle for physicians, APPs, behavioral health providers, telehealth practitioners, pharmacists, and other credentialed professionals.
- Professional Practice Evaluation and Quality of Care - Establishes and oversees processes that ensure the quality and safety of care delivered by members of the medical staff.
- Peer Review - Provides administrative leadership for the medical staff peer review program by coordinating confidential, objective, and timely review of cases involving potential quality-of-care, patient safety, professional practice, or clinical performance concerns.
- Medical Staff Education - Develops and coordinates ongoing medical staff education programs identifying educational needs based on quality data, peer review findings, regulatory changes, patient safety events, credentialing requirements, and emerging clinical issues.
- Medical Staff Support and Engagement - Serves as a trusted resource and administrative partner for members of the medical staff and establishes effective communication channels between the Medical Staff Services department, operational leaders, and providers.
- Regulatory and Accreditation Compliance - Maintains readiness for CMS, Joint Commission, The Compliance Team, state regulatory agencies, and other applicable regulatory or accreditation reviews.
- Provider Life Cycle and Onboarding - Partners with Provider Recruitment, Provider Enrollment, Clinical Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, and department leadership to create efficient provider onboarding and off-boarding processes.
- Data, Analytics, and Performance Management - Develops and maintains a Medical Staff Services KPIs. Monitor for trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Leadership and Department Management - Recruits, develops, and retains a high-performing Medical Staff Services team establishing appropriate staffing levels, workflows, policies, and performance expectations and promoting a culture of service, accountability, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing, health information management, or related field is required. Master's degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, public health, or related field is preferred.
- Experience: Experience in medical staff services, credentialing, healthcare quality, medical staff governance, or a related healthcare leadership function working with physicians and APPs and supporting medical staff committees and physician leadership is required. Certification such as CPMSM, CPCS, CPHQ, or equivalent professional credential, experience in a rural or community hospital environment supporting multi-site health systems is preferred.
