Title: Director of Materials

Duration: Direct Hire Opportunity
Compensation: $182,000 - $270,000 depending on experience

Skillset / Experience: The Director of Materials will lead all materials strategy and execution for AI server manufacturing operations in Austin. This executive-level role is responsible for end-to-end materials management including demand planning, supply planning, production control, inventory optimization, warehouse operations, and supplier collaboration. This leader will build and scale a best-in-class materials organization capable of supporting high-mix, high-complexity server manufacturing with tight customer delivery expectations and rapid production ramp cycles. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in electronics manufacturing services (EMS), server, storage, or high-performance computing environments.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive materials strategy aligned with production ramp, customer demand, and corporate objectives
- Build scalable planning and inventory systems to support AI server manufacturing growth
- Establish KPIs across forecast accuracy, inventory turns, material availability, and on-time delivery
Planning & Production Control
- Lead S&OP process integration with operations, procurement, and customer demand planning
- Oversee demand planning, supply planning, master scheduling, and production control functions
- Ensure material readiness for NPI builds and rapid customer configuration changes
- Drive capacity alignment across suppliers and internal manufacturing teams
Inventory & Warehouse Management
- Optimize inventory strategy (safety stock, buffer strategy, E&O mitigation)
- Implement controls to minimize excess and obsolete inventory exposure
- Oversee warehouse operations including receiving, kitting, WIP control, and finished goods flow
Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with procurement and global sourcing teams to mitigate shortages and allocation risk
- Support executive-level supplier escalations impacting server build schedules
- Collaborate with engineering on BOM accuracy, lifecycle management, and ECO execution
- Act as key interface between U.S. operations and global supply chain teams
Systems & Process Excellence
- Drive ERP and planning system optimization (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Implement digital tools for real-time material visibility and shortage management
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and data analytics
Team Leadership
- Build and mentor a high-performing materials organization including planners, buyers, production control, and warehouse leadership
- Establish accountability, performance metrics, and succession planning
- Create a culture of urgency, execution discipline, and cross-functional alignment
Required Qualifications - 12+ years of progressive materials or supply chain leadership experience
- 5+ years leading materials functions within electronics manufacturing, EMS, or server/HPC production
- Proven experience supporting high-mix, complex assemblies with global supply chains
- Strong background in S&OP, demand planning, MRP, and inventory optimization
- Demonstrated success managing supply constraints, allocations, and rapid production ramps
- Experience building and scaling teams in a growth environment
- Expertise in ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
