Description

Role Overview

The Director of Materials Testing will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical standards, quality assurance programs, operational processes, and compliance systems that support safe, consistent, and scalable operations. This role works closely with operations, project teams, business development, and senior leadership to improve performance, strengthen client relationships, and support long-term divisional growth.

This is a leadership-focused role centered around technical guidance, process improvement, workforce development, and operational oversight rather than day-to-day project coordination or project-level financial management.

Travel to project sites and regional offices will be required as needed (approximately 20-40%).

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership (SME)
  • Provide senior technical guidance for materials testing operations
  • Support complex technical issues and quality concerns
  • Develop and maintain testing standards and procedures


Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications
  • Maintain quality assurance processes and reporting standards
  • Support audits, NCR investigations, and corrective actions


Operating Systems & Process Governance
  • Improve operational workflows and divisional processes
  • Develop scalable systems and reporting procedures
  • Identify and implement process improvements


Client Relations & Commercial Support
  • Support client relationships and technical discussions
  • Assist with proposals, estimating, and project planning
  • Participate in senior-level commercial and contractual discussions


Financial Performance, Forecasting & Capacity Planning
  • Support workforce planning and operational forecasting
  • Assist with resource planning and divisional readiness
  • Recommend improvements that support operational performance


Project Execution Enablement
  • Support project teams with technical leadership and oversight
  • Promote consistent execution standards across projects
  • Ensure safety and quality expectations are maintained


People Leadership & Talent Framework
  • Develop training standards and competency frameworks
  • Mentor and support technical leaders and field personnel
  • Assist with hiring strategy, workforce planning, and talent development


Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required
  • Minimum 10 years of industry-related experience, including leadership or senior technical experience
  • Experience in materials testing, geotechnical services, or related infrastructure sectors required
  • CCIL and RSO certification preferred, or ability to obtain and maintain certifications
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE) certification required
  • PMP designation considered an asset
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to build systems, improve processes, and support operational growth
  • Established industry relationships and infrastructure sector experience considered an asset
