Schaffers Mill, located in Truckee, CA, is pleased to announce an excellent career opportunity for a full-time Director of Marketing & Membership! We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. As part of Troon, you will contribute to a global leader in golf and community management.

Compensation:

$120,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually

General Purpose:

Leads the Club's marketing, brand design and management, communications, membership development, and Member Services functions. Develops and implements strategies designed to strengthen the Schaffer's Mill brand, grow and retain membership, increase Member engagement, and ensure clear, consistent, and effective communication with Members, prospects, homeowners, and guests.

This is not a traditional Membership Director or Marketing Director position. The Director is responsible for leading the overall marketing and brand direction of the Club, coordinating those efforts across all Club departments and the broader Schaffer's Mill community & affiliated organizations, while also owning membership growth and the Member Services operation.

Works closely with the General Manager and Club leadership and serves as the primary Club marketing liaison with the Schaffer's Mill HOA, Exclusive Accommodations, and Real Estate Sales Team to identify opportunities for collaboration, coordinated marketing, lead generation, and promotion of the overall Schaffer's Mill lifestyle.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops and implements the Club's annual Sales & Marketing Plan, to include: communications, brand, and membership strategy, budget, calendar, departmental goals, and key performance indicators in coordination with the General Manager and Club leadership.
  • Serves as the primary steward of the Schaffer's Mill Club brand, leading the design, development, maintenance, and evolution of brand standards and how the Schaffer's Mill lifestyle, amenities, experiences, and culture are presented.
  • Ensures consistency in visual identity, messaging, tone, imagery, photography, design, collateral, signage, presentations, digital platforms, and other Member- and prospect-facing materials.
  • Provides creative direction for photography, video, graphic design, advertising, digital content, presentations, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Develops and oversees external marketing initiatives designed to strengthen brand awareness, reach targeted audiences, and generate qualified membership prospects.
  • Oversees digital marketing efforts including social media, Meta advertising, Google Ads, paid search, email marketing, SEO, website performance, audience targeting, and other appropriate channels.
  • Utilizes demographic, geographic, Member, homeowner, rental guest, prospect, and behavioral information to identify target audiences, guide marketing strategies, and evaluate campaign performance and return on investment.
  • Establishes and oversees the Club's Member communications strategy, calendar, and communication standards across weekly Member communications, newsletters, website content, social media, digital signage, Member app, and other communication channels.
  • Collaborates with Golf, Food & Beverage, Agronomy, Activities, Events, Member Services, and all other Club departments to proactively identify marketing, communication, promotional, and storytelling opportunities.
  • Assists department leaders with messaging, positioning, content, photography, promotion, and presentation of their respective operations, programs, and Member experiences.
  • Works closely with the General Manager on executive communications, strategic initiatives, major Club announcements, Member presentations, and other high-level communications.
  • Serves as the primary Club marketing liaison with the Schaffer's Mill HOA, Exclusive Accommodations, and Real Estate Sales Team, developing strong working relationships and identifying opportunities for greater collaboration and brand alignment.
  • Develops coordinated marketing opportunities among the Club, HOA, Exclusive Accommodations, and Real Estate, including advertising, photography, video, digital content, events, prospect experiences, cross-promotion, and appropriate lead sharing.
  • Works with Exclusive Accommodations and Real Estate to effectively introduce rental guests, prospective homeowners, and other qualified prospects to the Club and the overall Schaffer's Mill lifestyle.
  • Develops and implements strategies to achieve established membership goals, generate qualified prospects, strengthen Member retention, and increase Member engagement.
  • Manages the membership prospect pipeline and oversees timely follow-up, Club tours, membership presentations, prospect visits, referrals, and other membership sales activities.
  • Develops relationships with current Members, homeowners, prospective homeowners, rental guests, Realtors, and other referral sources to support membership development.
  • Tracks membership inquiries, lead sources, tours, applications, conversion, resignations, retention, and other key membership metrics; analyzes membership and market trends and provides recommendations to Club leadership.
  • Oversees new Member onboarding and orientation and develops strategies designed to better connect new, seasonal, and less-engaged Members with the Club.
  • Maintains a visible presence throughout the Club and develops strong relationships with Members, prospective Members, homeowners, guests, and business partners.
  • Directly supervises a Communications Coordinator or similar position responsible for day-to-day execution of Member communications, website updates, social media, etc. Establishes priorities, content calendars, production schedules, and quality standards for the Communications Coordinator and ensures day-to-day execution aligns with the Club's overall marketing and brand strategy.
  • Directly supervises, leads, trains, and develops the Member Services Team, which serves as a primary point of contact for Members and guests and is responsible for answering Club calls, greeting and directing Members and guests, coordinating reservations, responding to Member requests, and assisting with day-to-day Member needs. Establishes service standards and continually evaluates opportunities to expand the Team's responsibilities in support of the overall Member experience and Club operations.
  • Coordinates and manages outside marketing agencies, designers, photographers, videographers, digital advertising partners, website providers, and other vendors while maintaining sufficient hands-on knowledge to effectively direct and evaluate their work.
  • Participates as an active member of the Club's leadership team, contributes to broader strategic and operational planning, and prepares membership, marketing, communications, and Member engagement reports and presentations as requested.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating assigned associates.
  • Maintains confidentiality of Member, prospect, Club, and business information.
  • Completes other appropriate assignments as instructed by the General Manager.


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred;
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in membership, marketing, communications, sales, private clubs, hospitality, resorts, real estate, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous professional marketing and communications experience is required. Previous experience within a private club environment is strongly preferred.
  • Previous supervisory and team leadership experience required.


Physical Demands:
Frequently talks and hears. Regularly walks, stands, sits, and uses hands. Occasionally reaches with hands and arms and lifts up to 25 pounds. Typical office environment with regular movement throughout Club facilities and occasional participation in outdoor Club activities and events.

Environment/Noise:
Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is generally moderate. Position requires flexibility to attend Club events, Member functions, prospect visits, and other activities that may occur during evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Certificates/Licenses:
No certifications or licenses are required.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:

  • Strong understanding of marketing, communications, membership development, and relationship-based sales; private club membership and/or marketing experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of brand design and management, including visual identity, messaging, tone, imagery, photography, design standards, and brand consistency.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing integrated marketing and communications strategies across digital, social, email, web, paid advertising, and traditional channels.
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing practices and platforms, including Meta advertising, Google Ads, SEO/SEM, website management, social media, and email marketing.
  • Strong analytical ability, including experience utilizing demographic and audience information, evaluating campaign performance, measuring ROI, and interpreting membership and marketing trends.
  • Experience utilizing CRM, prospect-management, audience-segmentation, and lead-tracking systems.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and verbal communication skills, with strong visual and content instincts; photography and basic photo/video capabilities are highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building skills with demonstrated ability to manage staff, outside agencies and vendors, and collaborate effectively across multiple departments and organizations.
  • Exceptional organizational, project-management, and independent decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and proactively identify new opportunities.
