Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and strategic Director of Litigation to join our Legal team. This role will focus on managing and resolving litigation matters affecting the company, including product liability lawsuits, intellectual property cases, labor and employment issues, regulatory issues, including environmental matters, and commercial disputes. The ideal candidate will combine deep legal expertise with strong business judgment to protect and advance Komatsu Mining Technologies' interests.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Engage in all aspects of the litigation process and provide strategic guidance and legal advice proactively and relative to an existing portfolio of litigation, including but not limited to, product liability, labor and employment, intellectual property, environmental matters and commercial matters.
  • Lead outside counsel by developing and managing reasonable budgets, coordinating internal efforts to meet litigation requirements and delivering results within established budgets.
  • Ensure systems and preventative programs are in place to minimize KMT's risks and costs. Oversee the product safety/support programs of all KMT companies, including review of all Global Safety Alerts and Global Safety Notices.
  • Provide legal oversight in the accident reporting process and effectively communicate with a cross-functional internal team as well as the relevant insurers; offer suggestions for improvements to the process.
  • Stay updated on relevant law, regulations and evolving developments relevant to the mining, manufacturing, and technology sectors; providing strategic, accurate, high quality and practical legal advice to management and other attorneys and recommending policy and/or process changes as needed.
  • Advise senior leadership and business units on litigation risk, strategy, and exposure.
  • Draft, review, and analyze legal documents, including complaints, responses, motions, briefs, and settlement agreements.
  • Contribute to proactive risk mitigation strategies, compliance programs, and dispute avoidance initiatives.
  • Support internal investigations and regulatory inquiries when required.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum 7-10+ years of litigation experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house corporate practice.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex litigation, product liability, labor and employment disputes, intellectual property disputes, and/or regulatory enforcement, including environmental matters, in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong negotiation, advocacy, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, be a hands-on member of a small, highly driven legal team and collaborate across diverse business functions.
  • Knowledge of mining, heavy equipment, manufacturing, or technology industries helpful, but not required.
  • Experience working with insurers, including assessing available coverage and keeping insurers updated on case developments.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
