What to expect.

Under the general guidance of General Counsel, the Director of Insurance plays a key role in planning and executing Sheppard Pratt's insurance program while supporting risk management. The Director of Insurance utilizes in-depth knowledge of insurance and risk management disciplines and applies analytical thinking to support program risk mitigation, and regulatory adherence. The role collaborates across functions to ensure functional continuity, financial accuracy, and operational excellence.

Specific responsibilities include:

Customer Relations:

  • Demonstrates patient/staff focus and strives to exceed expectations for customer service.
  • Maintains constructive relationships with managers, clinicians, and all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrates openness to new ideas and new ways of doing things.
  • Contributes to creating a learning environment that values, empowers, enriches and supports patients and other staff.


Insurance Program Management:

  • Executes insurance renewal processes including data collection, research, underwriting coordination, and strategy implementation.
  • Participates in the resolution of situations relating to liability regarding all lines of insurance. This could include Workers' Compensation, via contact/consultation with attorneys, insurance brokers, claims management consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Manages insurance program operations, coordination, and evaluation of insurance needs, insurance related contract review, certificates of insurance, claims oversight, and compliance activities.
  • Maintains relationships with third party service providers including brokers, underwriters, and other third-party administrators.
  • Manages post-bind deliverables, policy issuance, and insurer/broker relationships for various processes.
  • Serves as the primary contact for internal stakeholders and insurance invoicing process.
  • Uploads and maintains renewal materials and documentation in collaboration platforms.


Risk Management Program:

  • Responsible for identifying, managing, evaluating, and tracking risk incidents.
  • Assists in the drafting and review of relevant policies and procedures.


Staff Supervision:

  • Selects, trains, appraises job performance, and as necessary, disciplines and discharges assigned staff.
  • Selects and monitors the performance of certain outside contractors.

The pay range for this position is $106,455.86 - $175,419.71. Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.

What we need from you.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Legal, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management or similar field required. Master's degree (e.g., MSRI) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in corporate insurance and risk management is required. Experience in health care industry is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of business insurance function and best practice department processes.
  • Risk Management certification is preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence with presenting data and advising leadership on data driven recommendations
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
