Director of Inpatient & Health Care Services - Full Time

In this role, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership for inpatient medical care, nursing services, and Employee Health Services. Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, program leaders, nursing personnel, and clinical teams, you will help ensure that services are safe, accessible, compliant, and responsive to the physical and behavioral healthcare needs of the individuals we serve.
About the Role

As the Director of Inpatient & Health Care Services, you will oversee the quality, coordination, and development of healthcare services within your area of responsibility.

You will provide clinical consultation and leadership to inpatient and outpatient teams, support nursing personnel, and ensure services meet organizational standards, regulatory requirements, payer expectations, and applicable laws.

You will also serve as a clinical resource to Compass Health leadership and workforce members, helping guide responses to complex medical, behavioral health, and crisis-related situations.
What You'll Do
  • Provide on-call case review and clinical consultation to inpatient units and outpatient providers as requested.
  • Develop service objectives and determine how resources will be used to accomplish organizational and program goals under the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer.
  • Ensure services are accessible in a nondiscriminatory manner and are provided at times and locations that support effective utilization.
  • Ensure services within the assigned area meet established standards of care.
  • Ensure services comply with Compass Health requirements and the standards of regulatory bodies, payers, and applicable laws.
  • Ensure inpatient clients receive appropriate medical care.
  • Partner with workforce members' direct supervisors to ensure nursing productivity and clinical standards are met.
  • Oversee Employee Health Services.
  • Participate in director-level on-call responsibilities as needed.
  • Provide medical education to clients and families when appropriate.
  • Ensure utilization management activities are appropriate to applicable models of care.
  • Participate in quality assurance and peer review activities.
  • Ensure quality improvement efforts are completed in accordance with Compass Health policies, professional standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable laws.
  • Use client satisfaction feedback, outcome data, and other quality indicators to guide service improvements.
  • Coordinate with other Compass Health programs to support continuity of care.
  • Provide clinical expertise and consultation to the leadership team.
  • Provide appropriate clinical supervision and consultation to workforce members.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on performance evaluations, coaching, and performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in regional and statewide committees and workgroups that support Compass Health's goals and emerging models of care.
  • Provide community education regarding the relationship between physical and behavioral health and support appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain required trainings, licenses, certifications, and credentials.
  • Safeguard client protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and Compass Health policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional conduct consistent with agency policy, state law, and applicable licensing requirements.
  • Promote respect for diversity and demonstrate multicultural competency and sensitivity.

Who You'll Work With

The Director of Inpatient & Health Care Services works closely with the Chief Medical Officer, program directors, nursing leaders, clinical supervisors, inpatient and outpatient providers, and other members of the Compass Health leadership team.

This role also collaborates across programs to strengthen coordination between physical and behavioral healthcare, improve continuity of care, and support effective responses to complex and acute clinical needs.
What You Bring
  • Advanced degree in nursing or a related healthcare field.
  • Current Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner license with the ability to practice in Washington State.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner licensure preferred.
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Professional as defined by Washington Administrative Code.
  • At least five years of direct nursing experience in a behavioral healthcare setting.
  • Inpatient behavioral health experience preferred.
  • At least two years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Leadership experience in a behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License, reliable transportation, and appropriate vehicle insurance.

  • Strong understanding of team dynamics and the ability to support a healthy, collaborative, and positive work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals who have complex needs and involvement with multiple systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including keyboarding skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to use an electronic health record for collaborative clinical documentation.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position works with individuals experiencing serious mental illness and may require participation in safely managing aggressive or escalated behavior.

The role regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, and using close vision. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.

The work environment is generally moderate in noise level but may occasionally become loud.
