Position OverviewThe Director of Human Resources is a hands-on business partner responsible for the direction and implementation of a people strategy. The ideal candidate will build partnerships, develop talent, offer creative solutions to organizational issues, support a culture of trust and inclusion, and foster innovation.
Responsibilities and Duties - Serve as a strategic HR partner and member of the executive leadership team
- Lead, coach, and develop an established HR team
- Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, investigations, leaves, accommodations, and HR compliance
- Partner with managers to address employee concerns and strengthen leadership and management practices
- Develop and deliver practical manager training on interviewing, supervision, documentation, employee relations, and HR best practices
- Support recruitment, retention, workforce planning, and succession strategies, particularly for critical and hard-to-fill positions
- Strengthen performance management, coaching, and employee development practices
- Lead HR technology, reporting, and process improvement initiatives
- Partner with internal and external experts on union matters, grievances, collective bargaining, and contract administration
- Build strong relationships with employees and maintain a visible presence across our programs and locations
Qualifications and Skills - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Significant progressive HR experience, including experience leading an HR function or team
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance; Massachusetts employment law experience strongly preferred
- Strong employee relations and investigation experience
- Experience coaching and developing HR professionals and managers
- Experience supporting frontline, hourly, or direct care workforces
- Strong HR technology skills with the ability to improve systems and processes
- Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills
- Experience working within a multi-location organization
- Behavioral health, healthcare, human services, or nonprofit experience strongly preferred
- Union and labor relations experience preferred; candidates with strong HR experience and a willingness to learn will also be considered
