Full Job Description
Role Overview
The Director, HSS & Enterprise Compliance, is a senior operational leader responsible for building, scaling, and running Stord's enterprise HSS function across a high-growth, multi-site fulfillment network. This role carries broad ownership across occupational safety, physical security, loss prevention, and enterprise compliance -- driving the programs, teams, and infrastructure that protect Stord's people, assets, and operations while positioning compliance as a commercial strength that supports customer growth and revenue.
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety & Security, the Director translates enterprise strategy into an operating organization -- leading Compliance Program Managers, and a network of site-level professionals to deliver consistent, high-quality HSS performance across every facility. This leader is equally comfortable in an executive conversation about risk and regulatory posture as they are reviewing corrective action trends with a Regional Leadership or supporting a customer audit. They bring operational discipline, regulatory depth, and a growth mindset to a function that directly influences Stord's ability to win and retain business.

Compliance is not a back-office function under this leader -- it is a front-line competitive capability. The Director ensures Stord's compliance programs are enterprise-grade, credible, and structured to scale with the business, enabling sales to lead with confidence.

What This Role Owns

The Director owns the full HSS operating organization and its outcomes -- not just individual programs, but the people, structure, and accountability systems that make those programs work at scale. This includes:
  • The HSS team: recruiting, developing, and leading Compliance Program Managers, and through them the full network of site-level HSS professionals.
  • Enterprise HSS strategy execution: translating the vision set by the Head of HSS into an operating plan with clear priorities, milestones, metrics, and accountability across the organization.
  • Enterprise compliance program performance: owning the outcomes of Stord's OSHA, EPA, GMP, DOT, and adjacent compliance programs -- ensuring they are current, enforced, and audit-ready across all facilities.
  • Compliance as a revenue enabler: partnering with Sales and Customer Success to position Stord's compliance capabilities as a differentiator in the market, supporting regulated customer onboarding, RFP responses, and customer audit readiness.
  • Safety and security program governance: setting performance expectations, reviewing regional and site-level outcomes, and driving continuous improvement across occupational safety, physical security, and loss prevention.
  • Risk management: identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating enterprise-level HSS risks -- physical, regulatory, financial, and reputational -- before they affect operations or customers.
  • HSS budget and resources: managing the function's operating budget, headcount planning, and technology investments to ensure the organization is properly resourced for current and future scale.
  • Cross-functional leadership: serving as the senior HSS voice in partnerships with Operations, Legal, HR, Finance, CX, and Sales -- ensuring HSS is integrated into business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Organizational Development
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of Regional Managers, Compliance Program Managers, and through them a network of site-level HSS professionals across a multi-site fulfillment network.
  • Set a high-performance culture within the HSS organization: clear expectations, direct feedback, and a development-first approach that builds the bench for future growth.
  • Recruit and hire critical roles within the HSS function, including partnering with HR on sourcing, assessment, and onboarding.
  • Conduct regular operating reviews to assess performance, address trends, and maintain alignment on enterprise priorities.
  • Identify capability gaps across the team and build targeted development plans, training investments, and succession pipelines that keep the organization ahead of Stord's growth.
  • Represent the HSS function in senior leadership forums, ensuring the team's work is visible, understood, and connected to broader business objectives.

Compliance Program Leadership
  • Provide senior leadership and strategic direction for Stord's enterprise compliance programs across OSHA, EPA, GMP, GDP, DOT, Hazmat, and applicable state and local regulatory frameworks.
  • Oversee the Compliance Program Managers in building and sustaining the compliance program architecture -- holding each accountable for program quality, audit readiness, and regulatory currency within their respective domains.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for compliance matters, including regulatory agency interactions, significant inspection findings, customer audit outcomes, and compliance-related legal inquiries.
  • Drive compliance performance across Regional Managers and site teams -- setting expectations, reviewing metrics, and intervening on systemic gaps before they become regulatory or reputational risks.
  • Ensure Stord's compliance posture scales with the business: as new sites open, new customers onboard, and new regulatory requirements emerge, the compliance program keeps pace.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Stord's customer-facing compliance narrative -- supporting RFP responses, customer audits, and sales conversations with a credible, current picture of program maturity.

Occupational Safety Program Oversight
  • Own occupational safety outcomes across the network -- driving improvement in TRIR, DART, near-miss reporting rates, and corrective action quality through Regional Managers and site teams.
  • Review enterprise safety performance data regularly, identify systemic trends, and direct the Compliance Program Managers and Regional Managers to address root causes at the program and operational level.
  • Partner with the Head of HSS and the Compliance Program Managers to ensure safety written programs, policies, and standards remain current, enforced, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of serious incident investigations -- reviewing findings, approving corrective actions, and ensuring post-incident learnings are applied across the network.
  • Support new site launches, automation deployments, and peak planning by ensuring safety requirements are embedded in operational planning from the start.

Physical Security and Loss Prevention Oversight
  • Own physical security and loss prevention program outcomes across the network -- setting the standards, reviewing performance, and holding Regional Managers and site teams accountable for execution.
  • Provide senior oversight of significant loss prevention investigations, including internal integrity matters, large-scale theft, and fraud -- ensuring investigations are conducted properly and outcomes are handled appropriately with HR and Legal.
  • Partner with Legal and HR on workplace violence prevention programs, active threat response, and sensitive security matters requiring executive involvement.
  • Review loss prevention and shrink metrics across the network and direct on systemic risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure physical security standards -- access control, CCTV, perimeter, and visitor management -- are current, enforced, and aligned with customer and industry requirements such as CTPAT and TAPA.

Compliance as a Commercial Capability
  • Partner with Sales, CX, and Account Management to ensure Stord's compliance capabilities are understood, communicated, and actively used to win and retain business.
  • Lead or support compliance-related customer conversations, including pre-sales qualification, audit preparation, and post-audit corrective action reviews.
  • Develop and maintain a library of compliance credentials, certifications, and program documentation that enables Sales to respond quickly and credibly to customer compliance requirements.
  • Assess compliance requirements for prospective customers and new market segments -- providing clear go/no-go guidance to commercial and operations leadership on regulated customer onboarding.
  • Partner with Customer Success to monitor customer-specific compliance commitments and ensure site teams are meeting them consistently.

Risk Management and Governance
  • Own the enterprise HSS risk register -- identifying, assessing, prioritizing, and tracking mitigation for the highest-impact safety, security, and compliance risks across the network.
  • Lead the Safety and Security Steering Committee in partnership with the Head of HSS -- preparing agendas, presenting performance data, and driving cross-functional decisions on risk and governance.
  • Manage Stord's insurance relationships from the HSS side -- providing accurate, current performance data to insurers, supporting loss control audits, and identifying opportunities to improve coverage terms through program performance.
  • Serve as a senior leader during major incidents -- providing executive oversight of response, coordinating with Legal and HR, managing external communications, and driving thorough post-incident reviews.
  • Ensure the HSS function maintains audit-ready documentation and governance records that demonstrate program maturity to regulators, customers, and Stord's board and investors.

Reporting, Metrics, and Business Alignment
  • Own enterprise HSS reporting to the Head of HSS and senior leadership -- delivering regular performance updates that connect safety, compliance, and security outcomes to operational and financial impact.
  • Partner with the Compliance Program Managers to ensure the compliance dashboard and metrics infrastructure gives leadership real-time visibility into risk posture and program health across both program domains.
  • Develop and present HSS business cases to senior leadership -- translating program investments into risk reduction, insurance savings, operational efficiency, and revenue protection.
  • Ensure HSS metrics are integrated into Stord's broader operational reporting cadences -- visible alongside financial and operational performance, not siloed in a separate function.
  • Drive a continuous improvement mindset across the HSS organization -- using data to identify the highest-value opportunities for program investment and operational risk reduction.

  • Demonstrated track record of building and scaling enterprise compliance programs with measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience operating as a cross-functional senior leader -- influencing Sales, Operations, Legal, HR, and Finance on HSS-related decisions.

  • Deep working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, GMP/GDP, DOT, and adjacent regulatory frameworks applicable to warehouse and fulfillment operations.
  • Strong background in enterprise compliance program design, governance, and performance management.
