Come join our team as the Director of Human Resources!

The Director of Human Resources leads the human resources function across a multi-state and cross-border commercial landscape operation, providing direction and oversight for HR programs, policies, and practices. This role partners closely with regional leadership to align HR strategy with business goals, while directly managing a team of Regional HR Generalists across the platform. The Director is responsible for building and optimizing consistent, scalable HR practices across all regions while accommodating local labor law requirements in the US and Canada.

This role requires a leader who can balance strategic, company-wide initiatives with hands-on coaching of a distributed HR team, and who is comfortable in an industry characterized by seasonal staffing fluctuations, a largely field-based workforce, and a strong safety culture.

Reports to: Chief People Officer

As a Director of Huma Resources, you must be able to perform the following essential functions of the job:
  1. Partner with regional and executive leadership to ensure HR strategies and initiatives support business goals.
  2. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on organization design, workforce planning and culture.
  3. Directly manage, coach and develop the regional HR generalists. Set clear performance expectations and metric. Conduct regular one-on-ones and performance reviews.
  4. Build a cohesive HR team that operates consistently and equitably while remaining responsive to regional needs.
  5. Identify training and development opportunities to strengthen the HR Generalist capabilities in employee relations, retention, and compliance.
  6. Ensure HR policies, employment practices, and documentation comply with applicable federal, state, and provincial employment laws, including US federal las (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, etc.) and Ontario's Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  7. Stay current on regulatory changes across all geographies.
  8. Provide guidance to HR generalist on complex investigations, disciplinary actions, terminations and lawsuits. Reinforce consistent employee relations practices.
  9. Champion initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, retention, career progression and company culture.
  10. Collaborate with operations leadership to reinforce a strong safety culture including coordination of return to work programs, reporting, and policy adherence.
  11. Provide leadership on KPIs like turnover, retention, staffing models, headcount, and other key workforce indicators.
  12. Advance a culture of data integrity and continuous improvement. Leverage technology and automation to reduce redundancy and improve accuracy.
  13. Follow all company policies and procedures.
  14. Perform any other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related field required; Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience

8-10 years of progressive HR experience required, including at least 3 years in an HR leadership role managing multi-site/multi-state HR team. Prior experience managing HR compliance in the US and Canada preferred.

Experience in commercial landscaping, construction, facilities services, or another field-based, seasonal industry strongly preferred.

Position can be based in any of our regional locations with ability to travel to other locations as needed. Expect up to 25% travel.

WORK CONDITIONS

Employees in this position should be able and willing to travel to branch locations as needed. Primarily an office environment with regular travel to field location. Some exposure to seasonal weather conditions and physical work environments common to the landscape industry should be expected during site vis
