What you will have an opportunity to do:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Housekeeping to lead our Housekeeping and Laundry operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, safety, and personalized service throughout the hotel. The Director of Housekeeping is a visible, hands-on leader who develops high-performing teams, maintains exceptional guestroom and public-area standards, and effectively manages labor, supplies, inventory, and departmental expenses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong operational knowledge, attention to detail, financial awareness, and a genuine passion for creating memorable experiences for both guests and team members.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and daily leadership for Housekeeping, Public Areas, Turndown, and Laundry operations.
  • Recruit, train, coach, schedule, and develop managers, supervisors, room attendants, housepersons, public-area attendants, and laundry team members.
  • Establish clear expectations and hold leaders and team members accountable for quality, productivity, attendance, safety, and service.
  • Conduct daily briefings, departmental meetings, training sessions, and performance discussions.
  • Create a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, recognition, professional development, and associate engagement.
  • Develop succession plans and identify opportunities for internal advancement.
  • Ensure departmental leaders are visible in the operation and actively support the team during high-volume periods.
Guestroom and Public-Area Standards
  • Ensure guestrooms, suites, public areas, offices, back-of-house spaces, and other assigned areas meet established cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Conduct regular guestroom, public-area, linen-room, laundry, and storage-area inspections.
  • Establish consistent inspection procedures and document deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Ensure rooms are cleaned, inspected, and released according to hotel occupancy demands and established check-in times.
  • Monitor VIP arrivals, special requests, room preferences, turndown service, and other personalized guest arrangements.
  • Partner with Front Office to manage room status, early arrivals, late departures, out-of-order rooms, and guest priorities.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns involving cleanliness, room condition, lost items, or housekeeping service.
  • Identify recurring service or quality concerns and implement sustainable solutions.
Operational Management
  • Develop daily staffing plans based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayover service, group activity, and business levels.
  • Monitor room assignments, cleaning progress, inspection status, productivity, and room availability throughout the day.
  • Maintain accurate room-status communication between Housekeeping, Front Office, Engineering, and Reservations.
  • Establish and maintain cleaning schedules for guestrooms, public areas, deep cleaning, preventive maintenance, and special projects.
  • Coordinate room maintenance and repair needs with Engineering and verify completed work.
  • Oversee the proper handling, documentation, storage, and return of lost-and-found items.
  • Ensure all departmental equipment, carts, closets, pantries, and storage areas are clean, organized, secure, and properly maintained.
  • Participate in operational meetings, executive meetings, forecasting discussions, and hotel planning activities.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned.
Financial and Productivity Management
  • Prepare and manage the annual Housekeeping and Laundry operating budgets.
  • Monitor labor costs, payroll, overtime, productivity, supplies, linen replacement, uniforms, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Review financial statements, forecasts, and departmental performance reports.
  • Adjust staffing levels according to occupancy and business demands while maintaining service and quality standards.
  • Establish productivity expectations and evaluate performance without compromising safety, cleanliness, or the guest experience.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while protecting the hotel's service standards and physical assets.
  • Review purchasing activity and ensure expenditures remain within approved budget guidelines.
  • Provide accurate information for monthly forecasts, variance explanations, and capital-planning needs.
Linen, Laundry, Supplies, and Inventory
  • Direct the purchasing, receiving, distribution, storage, and control of guest supplies, cleaning products, linen, terry, uniforms, and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate par levels based on occupancy, business volume, laundry schedules, and operational needs.
  • Conduct and document regular inventories of linen, terry, uniforms, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor linen quality, loss, damage, discard rates, and replacement costs.
  • Ensure laundry operations meet established standards for quality, productivity, equipment care, and chemical usage.
  • Maintain secure and organized storage areas with appropriate inventory controls.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and outside laundry or cleaning contractors, when applicable.
Safety, Sanitation, and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with hotel policies, brand standards, health regulations, safety requirements, and applicable employment laws.
  • Maintain current Safety Data Sheets and ensure cleaning products are labeled, stored, diluted, and used correctly.
  • Train team members on chemical safety, bloodborne pathogens, ergonomics, lifting procedures, personal protective equipment, and emergency response.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and work areas for hazards and immediately address unsafe conditions.
  • Document incidents, injuries, damages, guest concerns, and corrective actions accurately and promptly.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Security on investigations, workplace concerns, safety initiatives, and policy compliance.
  • Protect guest privacy, confidential information, room keys, master keys, and hotel assets.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Analyze guest feedback, inspection scores, quality audits, service-recovery trends, and departmental performance data.
  • Develop action plans to address recurring cleanliness, maintenance, productivity, or service concerns.
  • Maintain readiness for brand inspections, health inspections, safety audits, and ownership reviews.
  • Introduce processes, technology, and training that improve communication, room readiness, productivity, and quality.
  • Collaborate with hotel leaders to support sustainability initiatives, including water conservation, waste reduction, linen-reuse programs, and responsible chemical usage.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive housekeeping leadership experience in a hotel, resort, or luxury hospitality environment.
  • Previous experience as a Director of Housekeeping, Executive Housekeeper, or Assistant Director of Housekeeping strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing a large housekeeping operation, multiple outlets or buildings, and high occupancy levels preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of guestroom cleaning procedures, public-area maintenance, laundry operations, chemical handling, and inventory control.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage labor, budgets, forecasts, productivity, and departmental expenses.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and translate findings into practical action plans.
  • Proficiency with hotel property-management systems, housekeeping technology, scheduling systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are preferred.

Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
