Job Summary:

The Director of Health Promotion works with campus administrators, faculty and students to provide leadership and expertise in public health and health promotion with the aim to enhance overall student well-being and success. The individual in this role will lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of strategic health and well-being initiatives, prioritizing population-level initiatives that create healthy environments for Marist University students to thrive. The Director will design and deliver health promotion initiatives in a variety of areas, including alcohol and other drugs, sexual health, healthy relationships, nutrition and mental/emotional wellbeing, using a data driven and evidence-informed approach to needs assessment, program evaluation and outcome/impact assessment. The individual in this role will understand the holistic approach to wellness, and collaborate with a wide range of campus partners, building a culture of wellness that supports the objectives of Marist 100.

The successful candidate for the Director of Health Promotion will possess and demonstrate their ability to/knowledge of:

  • Commitment to the fostering of an inclusive student community, using social justice and cultural humility practices
  • Incorporating health promotion in the context of higher education. Familiarity with/application of the ACHA Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (SPHPHE) and other relevant campus resources (Okanagan Charter, US Health Promoting Campuses Network, etc.)
  • Evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives
  • Leadership experience in strategic planning, program development and implementation, training and development
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and build strategic relationships with a broad range of colleagues, partners, and stakeholders. Commitment to promoting inclusive practices that encourage participation from a wide range of populations and communities
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including experience as a presenter and educator
  • Quantitative and qualitative research (e.g. research design, survey development, environmental assessment, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation, etc.)
  • Handling multiple projects simultaneously, managing time efficiently, and prioritizing tasks
  • Analyzing health-related professional literature relevant to college students and assessing its applicability and utility for effectiveness on the Marist campus
  • Supervisory skills to effectively manage student employees and/or volunteers
  • Proficiency with technological tools to facilitate communication, efficiency, presentation, analysis and assessment, and case management, including Microsoft 365 suite of office products, Microsoft Copilot, statistical software, Maxient, etc.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion or related field
  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience
  • Supervisory experience


Essential Functions:

  • Develop, plan, implement, and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services. Ensure the curriculum is guided by assessment, best practices, and aligns with institutional and mission priorities. Lead health campaigns and prevention initiatives, produce marketing materials, and manage communications. Develop, implement, and advocate for campus policies that advance and promote health and well-being.
  • Develop and implement campus-wide assessment strategies and instruments to determine health needs, assets, and priorities. Conduct evaluation of health promotion initiatives to assess shifts in health behaviors or health outcomes.
  • Lead comprehensive assessment efforts by overseeing and analyzing data collection, evaluating program effectiveness and student learning, and monitoring behavioral trends to guide strategic planning. Maintain expertise in national research and best practices and serve as a subject-matter resource for health promotion initiatives, campus partners, and faculty/staff integrating well-being principles into their programs.
  • Engage in and lead coalition building with key stakeholders on and off campus to develop a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to student well-being. Collaborate with clinical partners, campus departments, and community organizations to embed well-being into the student experience. Practice cultural humility and incorporate social justice concepts and principles into health promotion processes.
  • Develop, launch, and oversee a well-being peer educator program. Supervise undergraduate students participating in the planning and delivery of health promotion initiatives, such as peer educator groups and programming. Serve as advisor to student-run health/wellness clubs and organizations. Provide training to staff and student leaders on a variety of well-being topics to enable them to serve as campus leaders and guides for students.
  • In collaboration with other campus partners, lead the development of the structure of the Office of Health Promotion, including vision, mission, goals, policies, and procedures of the department. Lead strategic planning efforts for health promotion processes at the institution.
  • Lead and participate in campus committees and multidisciplinary teams focused on improving areas of the student experience and student well-being, such as the Alcohol and Other Drug Committee, the Student Affairs Assessment Committee, and the Retention Committee.
  • Develop reports and proposals to demonstrate the impact of the Office of Health Promotion. Develop and implement a communication strategy to educate the Marist community on the work of the Office of Health Promotion, and advocate for continued support and growth of the department.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education setting and/or with a college-aged population
  • Experience with peer education, including development, management, oversight, or supervision of a peer education program
  • Current Certified Public Health (CPH) or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential
  • Demonstrated competency in addressing health disparities using population health framework
  • Participation in research and professional writing, publications and/or presentations

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
