Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director Health Information Management, Vendor Resource Management (VRM) has a key role in the strategy, planning, implementation and management of operations supporting production coding for Health Information Management Coding and Abstraction Services (HIMCAB) and Global SSC (GSSC) teams. This role is responsible for driving operational performance across vendor partners through effective resource management, data analysis, and performance oversight, including quality, productivity, and coding process, workflow, and service level adherence.

What you will do in this role:

  • Provides guidance and leadership on quality outcomes to Production Coding vendors
  • Accountable for overall vendor and operational performance outcomes, including productivity, service levels, and financial impact
  • Provides oversight of day-to-day VRM operations, including workflow management, queue oversight, and production performance
  • Ensures monitoring of operational metrics (e.g., TAT, volume, productivity, unbilled) and holds vendor teams accountable for results
  • Oversees vendor relationships and performance, including SLA adherence, issue resolution, and performance improvement actions
  • Holds vendors accountable for performance outcomes and drives improvement through structured follow-up and escalation when needed
  • Partners with VRM leadership to facilitate corporate customer relations with other teams within HIM Coding and Abstraction Services and HCA Key Stakeholders associated with Production coders' quality and operational performance outcomes.
  • Escalates any coding quality concerns to the VRM AVP, VP Global SSC, and AVP and VP Coding/Abstraction Quality.
  • Maintains VRM's Quality Control Plan for contracted production coding vendors.
  • Reviews and evaluates vendor quality outcomes and ensures appropriate follow-up actions are implemented
  • Collaborates with HIMCAB for vendor coding quality improvement opportunities; communicates the need for RCA and Action Plans to the vendors.
  • Partners with vendors and internal stakeholders to drive sustained quality improvement
  • Ensures quality expectations are achieved through operational accountability and performance management
  • Provides leadership and oversight for enterprise initiatives impacting coding operations (e.g., workflow changes, system implementations)
  • Identifies and drives operational and performance improvement initiatives based on data trends and business needs.
  • Utilizes business intelligence tools and reporting to monitor operational and quality performance
  • Leverages dashboards and KPIs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Provides regular performance updates and insights to leadership
  • Responsible for ensuring that VRM team members meet the established performance standards.
  • Stays abreast of regulatory requirements and company compliance policies, ensuring compliance and timely staff education and training.
  • Maintains vendor relationships and drives course of action as needed.
  • Leads and develops VRM leadership team with a focus on accountability, performance ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees escalation of coding quality concerns, as well as operational and system issues impacting production workflows
  • Ensures timely resolution of issues affecting performance and service delivery
  • Collaborates with leadership to establish vendor staffing strategies and volume projections
  • Provides direction for resource allocation strategy and ensures alignments with business needs.
  • Ensures effective utilization of vendor resources through proactive planning and monitoring
  • Ensures compliance with the Gold Standards and Service Level Agreements as well as standardization across enterprise.
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of contract coding vendors.
  • Facilitates problem-solving and collaboration with HIM Coding and Abstraction Services as it relates to coding quality.
  • Provides support to Parallon HIM Coding and Abstraction Services team members' efforts on various multidisciplinary committees and work groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, ideally in areas like HIM, Business Administration, IT, or Organizational/Change Management. Degree requirement may be substituted by current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program or equivalent work experience with CEO approval
  • Minimum 5 years' management experience.
  • Minimum 7 years recent HIM acute care coding experience, management, or consultative preferred.
  • Experience with Computer Assisted Coding preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS required.
