Director of Finance

Location: Charlottesville, VA (On-site)
Salary: From $120,000 to $140,000 annually (Depending on Experience)
Summary

We are partnering with a well-established organization seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead and strengthen its finance and accounting operations. Company details will be shared with qualified candidates during the hiring process.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for financial reporting, cash flow management, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and developing a high-performing finance team. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who also enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Prepare and review accurate financial statements and reports for executive leadership.
  • Manage daily cash flow, treasury functions, banking relationships, and rolling cash flow forecasts.
  • Develop annual budgets, financial forecasts, and business performance analyses.
  • Strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
  • Identify financial risks and implement practical process improvements.
  • Coordinate tax filings, financial audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop financial models, dashboards, KPIs, and executive reporting.
  • Partner with leadership to support strategic planning and business decisions.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team while fostering accountability and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing finance or accounting teams.
  • Strong background in:
    • Financial reporting
    • Month-end close
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Cash flow management
    • Internal controls
    • Financial analysis
  • Experience improving financial processes and implementing effective controls.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices.
  • Experience managing audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on-site in Charlottesville, VA.
Preferred
  • CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification.
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience with CargoWise, QuickBooks, or similar accounting systems.
  • Experience with treasury operations, working capital management, and executive-level financial reporting.
