Full Job Description
Director of Finance

Location: Sunnyvale, CA (on-site) Reports to: CEO
The Role

We're hiring our first Director of Finance to build the financial backbone of the company as we scale. You'll own financial planning, reporting, and operations end-to-end - partnering directly with the CEO and leadership team to bring clarity and discipline to how we forecast, budget, and make decisions. This is a hands-on, builder role: you'll be standing up systems and processes from a lean starting point, not inheriting a mature finance org.
Responsibilities
  • Own financial planning & analysis: annual and rolling forecasts, long-range planning, scenario modeling, and cash runway management
  • Build and maintain budgeting processes and monthly financial reviews with business/functional partners
  • Prepare financial reporting, board materials, and investor updates; support fundraising diligence, data rooms, and investor Q&A
  • Ensure accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP; own accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Manage cash flow and treasury operations, banking relationships, and monitor compliance with applicable laws, tax filings, and regulations
  • Evaluate, implement, and own finance systems (e.g., QuickBooks/NetSuite, cap table management, payroll/PEO) as the company scales
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risk; develop financial strategies around capital, facilities, and staffing needs
  • Partner with engineering and operations on manufacturing-related finance: BOM costing, unit economics, inventory accounting, capital equipment planning, and supply chain/vendor spend
  • Partner cross-functionally with People Ops on compensation planning and equity administration
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for investors, banking partners, and outside accounting/tax/audit firms
  • Support corporate development activities including strategic partnerships and potential M&A
Qualifications
  • 7-10+ years of progressive finance experience, including experience at the Controller, Head of Finance, or Director level in a high-growth or startup environment
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, tax, and compliance
  • Experience building or scaling financial operations and internal controls from the ground up
  • Track record supporting fundraising, investor relations, and board reporting
  • Comfortable operating as a hands-on individual contributor as well as a strategic leader we're a lean team
  • Required: background in hardware, manufacturing, or deep tech - including experience with BOM/product costing, inventory accounting, capital equipment budgeting, or supply chain finance
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks or NetSuite, cap table tools, and Excel/Google Sheets
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA, CPA, or Master's in Finance a plus
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; note this role may require access to information subject to U.S. export control regulations
What Sets a Great Candidate Apart
  • Prior public accounting experience, spanning both large firms and startups
  • Active CPA license
  • Experience with equipment financing or other non-dilutive financing structures common to hardware companies
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment - e.g., managing costing/margin analysis for physical products, working with contract manufacturers, or overseeing capex for production lines
  • Comfortable pushing a fast but sustainable pace in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
