Full Job Description
Overview

The Director of Finance will serve as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and Executive Committee, providing financial insight that helps drive profitability, manage expenses, improve forecasting, and support sound business decisions across the hotel. This leader will oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations while partnering closely with department leaders to help them understand the financial impact of their business decisions.

We are looking for a hands-on, collaborative hospitality finance leader who enjoys being part of the operation-not someone who leads from behind a desk. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with hotel leadership, ownership, and department heads and will communicate financial information in a way that is practical, clear, and actionable.

This is a strong opportunity for a Director of Finance who is passionate about team development, hospitality finance, operational partnership, and continuous improvement. The property has a solid finance team and a collaborative leadership culture, providing an established foundation for a leader who can develop talent, strengthen financial understanding throughout the hotel, and continue to improve forecasting and financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of hotel finance and accounting operations for a 279-room luxury property.
  • Partner with the General Manager and Executive Committee on financial strategy, profitability, business performance, and operational decision-making.
  • Manage the annual budgeting process, monthly forecasting, financial planning, and long-range planning.
  • Analyze hotel financial performance, including P&L results, labor costs, departmental expenses, revenue trends, and profitability.
  • Lead monthly financial reporting and provide clear, actionable analysis and recommendations to hotel leadership.
  • Partner with department heads to improve financial understanding, accountability, forecasting accuracy, and expense management.
  • Develop and mentor the hotel finance team, including the Accounting Manager and Accounting Clerk, with an emphasis on career development and professional growth.
  • Build strong relationships with hotel ownership and effectively communicate financial results, trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable financial regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, control costs, and strengthen financial processes.
  • Support and lead finance-related initiatives associated with financial systems, including the transition to and integration of Workday and other financial technology.
  • Participate actively in hotel operations and leadership meetings, bringing a positive, solutions-oriented approach to financial and operational challenges.
  • Foster a collaborative finance culture where the accounting team is viewed as a business partner to the entire hotel.
  • Support the hotel's food and beverage operations, including three meal periods, poolside operations, and other revenue-generating outlets.
  • Work closely with operational leaders to understand business drivers and translate financial data into actionable strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent hospitality finance experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive finance or accounting leadership experience in the hospitality industry, preferably within a full-service or luxury hotel environment.
  • Previous Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, or similar hotel finance leadership experience preferred.
  • Marriott or other major hotel brand experience strongly preferred; experience with Marriott financial systems and processes is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, P&L analysis, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and translate results into clear business recommendations for operational leaders.
  • Experience partnering with General Managers, Executive Committee members, department heads, and hotel ownership.
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor accounting and finance team members and support career growth.
  • Strong understanding of hotel operations and the financial impact of rooms, food and beverage, labor, and other operating departments.
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, operational environment and engaging with leaders outside of the finance department.
  • Strong communication, presentation, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced hotel environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain positive and solutions-oriented during periods of change or operational stress.
  • Experience with Workday or other hotel financial management systems preferred.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in a practical, understandable manner to non-finance leaders.
