Description

The Director of Finance and Operations leads the end-to-end financial management and day-to-day operations for the Mace business. This role owns budgeting and forecasting, cost and inventory accounting, financial reporting and controls, while also directing production/assembly, warehouse operations, logistics, purchasing, and cross-functional process improvement. The leader will build a high-performing team, drive KPI discipline, and ensure Mace meets its growth, quality, safety, and profitability goals.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Governance
  • Own the annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, and monthly close; deliver timely GAAP financials (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with clear variance analysis.
  • Manage cash flow, working capital (DSO/DPO/DIO), and capital spend; drive inventory accuracy and turns.
  • Build dashboards for executive review-daily/weekly KPIs, monthly operating review (MOR) packages, and scorecards by product line/customer.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls, SOX-lite discipline, and risk management; coordinate external CPA reviews/audits and tax compliance.


Operations Leadership

  • Oversee procurement (direct/indirect), supplier performance, and contract terms; support dual-sourcing, lead-time reduction, and landed-cost control.
  • Implement S&OP / demand-supply planning with Sales and Supply Chain to align forecasts, capacity, inventory, and service levels.
  • Direct assembly/production, warehouse operations, internal quality, recovery/returns, outbound transactions, and shipping.
  • Ensure on-time delivery, throughput, and labor efficiency; apply Lean/5S/continuous improvement to reduce waste and improve flow.
  • Own logistics strategy (parcel/LTL/FTL), freight audit, claims, and carrier performance; optimize network and shipping costs.
  • Partner with IT on ERP health (item masters, BOMs/routings, cycle counts, MRP, WMS) and business analytics.


People Leadership & Culture
  • Lead, coach, and develop finance, purchasing, and operations leaders; set clear goals, accountability, and succession plans.
  • Foster a culture of safety, ownership, and continuous improvement; model professional communication and high standards.


Compliance, Quality & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT/transport, and company policies; maintain training, documentation, and incident reporting.
  • Oversee internal quality metrics (RMA/RTV rates, first-pass yield) and corrective actions; partner with Engineering on product changes/ECOs.


Cross-Functional & Customer Focus
  • Collaborate with Sales/Customer Service on demand planning, order promising, and service levels; coordinate RTV/disposition and credit impacts.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) with finance/operations readiness: capacity, tooling, costing, and ramp plans.
  • Drive vendor and customer negotiations where operational or financial terms materially impact profitability or service.


Strategic & Project Work (as needed)
  • Lead footprint/capacity evaluations, make-vs-buy analyses, and automation/technology projects with clear ROI cases.
  • Support M&A diligence and integrations for the Mace business as directed.


Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Expert in cost accounting, inventory control, standard costing/BOMs, and ERP/MRP; strong Excel/analytics and KPI management.
  • Proven team leadership; hands-on, detail-driven, and calm under pressure; excellent cross-functional communicator.
  • Demonstrated success implementing Lean/CI and improving service, cost, and cash simultaneously.
  • May require extended hours during month-end/quarter-end or major operational transitions.


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, Operations, or related field; CPA/CMA/MBA preferred.
  • 8-15 years progressive experience across controllership/FP&A and plant/operations leadership in a manufacturing/distribution environment.


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
