Director of Finance and OperationsLocation: Remote in the United States, Southern California preferred
Type: Full-time
Reports to: CEO
Compensation: $165,000 - $175,000 USD + bonus, equity & benefits
We9re hiring a Director of Finance and Operations to own the financial and operational backbone of our business. This is a hands-on role with finance at its core, spanning accounting, planning and analysis, HR administration, contracts, compliance, and the systems and vendors that keep our company running.
You9ll be accountable for accurate and timely financials, understanding how the business is performing against plan, and making sure we have the processes and controls to operate effectively. Beyond finance, you9ll own our core back-office functions - working with outside providers and counsel where appropriate - and look for opportunities to make the way we operate better.
This is a high-trust, high-visibility role for someone who likes taking ownership, brings order to complexity, and is equally comfortable digging into a budget variance, negotiating a vendor renewal, or improving an internal process. As we grow, so will this role - it9s the senior-most finance seat in the company, with room to expand your scope as the business scales.
What You9ll Do- Own the monthly and annual close, working with our external accounting team to deliver accurate and timely financials
- Own our financial model, budgeting and forecasting, including tracking performance, identifying variances and providing clear analysis of our outlook
- Prepare financial reporting and analysis for leadership and support board reporting
- Own company spending and financial controls, helping teams spend effectively while maintaining financial discipline
- Manage vendors, contracts and renewals, coordinating with outside counsel and other experts when needed
- Own HR administration, including payroll and benefits oversight, onboarding and offboarding, compensation changes, performance reviews and compliance
- Manage our key back-office systems, providers and recurring obligations, including our PEO, insurance, tax and corporate compliance
- Continuously improve our processes and controls, and lean into projects outside the core mandate where you can add value
What We9re Looking For- 7-10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, ideally including time as the senior-most finance person or the #2 in a finance function at a startup or similarly lean environment
- Strong accounting fundamentals and experience owning or overseeing a monthly close
- Solid FP&A skills, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling and variance analysis
- Experience working across HR administration, vendors, contracts and outside professional service providers
- Strong judgment, organization and attention to detail, with the ability to independently own a broad range of responsibilities
- A hands-on mentality and a track record of improving the processes and systems around you
- Experience in PE-backed or investor-backed environments, including board or lender reporting, is a strong plus
