Are you a hands-on leader who thrives on solving complex challenges, developing talented teams, and ensuring exceptional facilities operate at their best? Hilton Milwaukee is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead all aspects of the Engineering Department and oversee the maintenance, safety, and operational excellence of one of Milwaukee's most iconic hospitality destinations.

As a member of the hotel's Executive Committee, the Director of Engineering plays a critical role in the strategic leadership of the property. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all building systems, equipment, and facilities while ensuring a safe, comfortable, and exceptional experience for guests and associates alike.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Engineering Department, including Engineers, Painters, and Carpenters.
  • Develop and manage departmental schedules, staffing plans, payroll administration, and labor controls.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop team members while conducting performance evaluations and addressing performance concerns when necessary.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all hotel mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems.
  • Lead preventive maintenance programs and oversee maintenance, repair, and capital improvement projects.
  • Conduct regular property inspections to maintain quality, safety, and operational standards.
  • Partner with hotel leadership to support strategic initiatives, operational goals, and guest satisfaction objectives.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, control expenses, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, life safety requirements, environmental standards, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Collaborate with guests, vendors, contractors, and corporate partners to support departmental and property objectives.
  • Assist with troubleshooting complex maintenance issues and provide technical guidance to the engineering team.
  • Participate as an active member of the Executive Committee, contributing to the overall success and strategic direction of the hotel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring
  • Previous leadership experience in hotel engineering, facilities management, building operations, or a related maintenance environment required.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel and commercial building systems, including:
    • HVAC and refrigeration equipment
    • Electrical systems
    • Plumbing systems and drainage
    • Mechanical equipment including motors, pumps, fans, and controls
    • Pneumatic and electronic systems
    • Fire alarm, life safety, and emergency systems
    • Building maintenance and FF&E
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, budgets, financial reports, and regulatory documents.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, SDS requirements, and other safety regulations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Computer proficiency, including experience with maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to safely operate and understand hand and power tools.
  • Professional presence with a commitment to providing exceptional guest service.
