Full Job Description
Impact
As a Director of Engineering for Shipt's Last Mile Delivery and Gig Platform, you will lead multiple teams of engineers and partner with Product, Data Science, and Operations teams to grow and scale the fulfillment of our Grocery and Package delivery businesses.

You will manage, mentor, and develop engineers and engineering managers while overseeing technical design, implementation, and operation of these highly available solutions.  You will establish a vision and roadmap to fulfill with speed, quality, and efficiency. 

This is a hybrid role that is based in one of our three office hubs: Birmingham, AL; Minneapolis, MN; or San Francisco, CA, so you need to be located near one of these to designate as your home office.

How you can make an impact:

Provide visionary leadership and management to engineering teams consisting of engineering managers and individual contributors.

Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Help transform the organization to be leaders in AI Native development.

Maintain a technical roadmap and partner closely with operations to align efforts with business objectives and customer needs across both delivery logistics and platform onboarding.

Partner on the technical strategy of software development projects, including architecture design, code quality, and adherence to best practices to ensure the implementation of scalable and maintainable solutions.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, user experience, data science, and other engineering teams across the company to solve interesting and challenging problems.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful
  • Bachelor’s or more advanced degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline; or equivalent experience 15+ years of software development experience, preferably building customer-facing products and services.

  • 5+ years of experience leading highly effective software engineering teams

  • Strong technical background with deep knowledge of software development methodologies, architectures, and technologies, alongside a fundamental understanding of logistics, delivery scaling, or identity and onboarding platforms.

  • Must have experience designing and delivering distributed, highly available, large scale, high performing applications in an agile environment.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans, drive alignment between technology efforts and business objectives, and manage complex roadmaps.

  • Demonstrated excellent communications, interpersonal skills, and the ability to inspire engineering teams, manage performance, and drive results.

  • Must have experience managing budgets (including vendors), operational plans, engineering priorities, and performance expectations for teams.

Pay Range: $140,000 - $265,000

Work Arrangement

Shipt considers candidates located near a Shipt office or workspace in Birmingham, San Francisco, or Minneapolis to be hybrid, which means that they have the flexibility to work from home (with leader approval) or at a Shipt office in order to facilitate the ability to innovate, collaborate, and spark team connections. In-office expectations will vary by role and leader.  Certain roles may require in-office presence on a full-time basis. Please work with your recruiter to learn more about the classification of this role.

Employees will also be eligible to receive discretionary vacation for exempt team members, paid holidays throughout the calendar year and paid sick leave.  Other compensation includes eligibility for an annual bonus and the potential for restricted stock units based on role.
