Having developed a strong portfolio of MEP engineering-intensive projects, our integrated design team is looking for a Director of Electrical Engineering who has an entrepreneurial spirit, is a self-starter, and has good technical, design, marketing, and leadership skills. Having good communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment, this Director of Electrical Engineering will be responsible for providing leadership for the day-to-day operations, and overall direction of the Electrical Engineering discipline, and managing the personnel within the Electrical Engineering discipline as well as serving as Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects.

Key Qualifications:

Candidate shall bear an active professional engineering license issued by the State of North Carolina. At least 8 to 10 years of experience as a licensed professional engineer (PE) designing sophisticated electrical engineering building systems. Experience as an engineering department manager within an A/E design or engineering design professional services firm is desirable. Thorough expertise in the design of electrical engineering building systems including site and building lighting, power, emergency power, fire alarm, short circuit analysis using SKM, lightning protection, and energy compliance design. Our base design technology tool is Revit. Revit proficiency is desirable. Genuine interest in integrated design and collaboration between our in-house disciplines combining our strengths in architecture, interiors, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, landscape architecture, and planning to help enhance our clients' long-term success.

Qualified candidate needs practical professional experience and knowledge in the following:

  • 480V and 208V systems are required. Experience with primary distribution systems 24kV and below is a plus.
  • Working the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is required.
  • Working the National Electrical Code, NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Code, IEEE Standards, NFPA 70(E), and the State of North Carolina Fire Prevention Code is required.
  • Project construction administration phase work including performing or supervising shop drawing review, responding to RFI’s, and conducting or supervising on-site construction observation visits.
  • Bio-tech-pharmaceutical, commercial, industrial, and commercial interiors construction.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example in technical design related to A/E projects spanning multiple specialties including Life Sciences, Academic, Civic + Cultural, Corporate, Justice + Government, Master Planning, Science, and Technology.
  • Serve as Electrical Engineer of Record on assigned projects performing calculations, design, fixture/equipment selection, specifications, etc.
  • Oversee, hire, evaluate, mentor, develop, and train the electrical engineering team, especially in technical competence, team building, continuous improvement, and client relations.
  • Perform annual performance reviews and make salary recommendations for the electrical engineering team.
  • Supervise the work of all electrical engineering personnel.
  • Listen, understand, and manage the electrical engineering department in a financially responsible manner.
  • Meet with clients and perspective clients while being active and visible in professional, business, civic, and community engagements.
  • Develop and implement techniques for improving project procedures and the quality of our electrical engineering services, designs and documents while developing new competencies to support target specialties.
  • Be aware of, and effectively apply, technology tools to consistently achieve efficient, quality production of our electrical engineering documents.
  • Coordinate work, allocate resources, and project requirements with Project Managers and other discipline leaders to ensure meeting client delivery deadlines for our electrical services.
  • Review and approve electrical engineering team timesheets.
  • Assist the firm in responding to new business opportunities and help prepare proposals for electrical engineering scope of services.
