Full Job Description
The Director of Development leads and implements Child & Family Center's comprehensive fundraising and fund development strategy. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this position is responsible for increasing philanthropic support through individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, fundraising campaigns, special events, and other revenue-generating initiatives.

The Director of Development builds and maintains meaningful relationships with donors, prospective donors, corporate partners, community leaders, and other supporters. The successful candidate will be a strategic, results-oriented, and relationship-focused fundraising professional with a proven ability to identify opportunities, secure financial support, strengthen donor engagement, and achieve measurable fund development goals.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Development works closely with the President & CEO, senior leadership, oversees the Marketing & Events Manager and interacts with the board of directors and community to support the long-term sustainability and growth of Child & Family Center.

What You'll Do:

Fund Development Strategy and Performance
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual fund development plan aligned with the organization's strategic priorities, budget, and financial goals.
  • Identify opportunities to diversify and expand philanthropic revenue.
  • Establish and monitor monthly, quarterly and annual key performance indicators, including progress toward fundraising goals, donor acquisition and retention, sponsorship revenue, event performance, donor engagement, and other relevant measures, in coordination with the President & CEO.
  • Produce a monthly fund development dashboard that clearly communicates fundraising activity, results, trends, opportunities, and areas requiring attention.
  • Analyze fundraising performance and recommend strategies to strengthen results and achieve annual goals.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Center's programs, outcomes, funding needs, and community impact.

Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, major-gift prospects, corporate supporters, and other prospective donors.
  • Build and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, including individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans.
  • Develop strategies to increase donor acquisition, retention, engagement, and giving.
  • Coordinate donor meetings, tours, presentations, recognition activities, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Ensure donors receive timely, meaningful, and personalized acknowledgment and communication.
  • Partner with the President & CEO and other key leaders on donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.

Corporate Partnerships and Sponsorships
  • Develop and maintain relationships with businesses, corporations, professional organizations, and community partners.
  • Identify and secure corporate sponsorships for events, programs, campaigns, and organizational initiatives.
  • Develop compelling sponsorship packages with meaningful recognition and engagement opportunities, in coordination with the Marketing & Events Manager.
  • Ensure all sponsor benefits, recognition, and contractual commitments are fulfilled, in coordination with the Marketing & Events Manager.
  • Attend community, business, networking, and partner events to increase organizational visibility and strengthen philanthropic relationships.

Fundraising Events and Campaigns
  • Lead fundraising strategy, sponsorship outreach, and donor engagement for Child & Family Center's signature events, including Taste of the Town and the 5K Walk for Domestic Violence Awareness.
  • Develop strategies to maximize event attendance, sponsorship revenue, donations, and net proceeds.
  • Evaluate the financial performance, community impact, and return on investment of fundraising events.
  • Develop and lead annual giving, major-gift, anniversary, capital, and special fundraising campaigns as assigned.
  • Create strategies to convert event attendees, sponsors, and community supporters into ongoing donors and organizational partners.

Fundraising Communications and Community Engagement
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Events Manager to develop fundraising messages, donor communications, appeals, impact stories, event materials, and sponsorship collateral.
  • Ensure all fundraising communications accurately reflect the Center's mission, values, programs, outcomes, and community impact.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Child & Family Center within the community.
  • Deliver presentations to donors, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups.
  • Maintain awareness of philanthropic trends, community needs, and emerging fundraising opportunities.

Leadership Engagement
  • Partner with the President & CEO to engage the Board of Directors in fundraising, donor cultivation, sponsorship development, and community outreach.
  • Provide fundraising information, materials, training, and support to Board Members and organizational leadership.
  • Participate in Board and committee meetings as requested.
  • Support organizational leaders in identifying, cultivating, and connecting with prospective donors and community partners.

Development Operations
  • Ensure donor records, contributions, pledges, sponsorships, communications, and contact information are accurately and consistently maintained in the donor database.
  • Establish and maintain effective systems for gift processing, acknowledgment, donor tracking, reporting, and stewardship.
  • Ensure fundraising data is accurate, timely, and sufficient to support monthly KPI reporting, dashboard development, and decision-making.
  • Monitor fundraising activities and results against established goals, budgets, and performance measures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, ethical fundraising standards, donor restrictions, and organizational policies.
  • Develop and monitor the department's annual budget.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding donor information and organizational matters.
  • Supervise staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers as assigned.
  • Experience with Bloomerang CRM is a plus

Work Schedule (Subject to change based on Center's needs):
  • Must work onsite a minimum of two days per week and as needed based on the needs of the Center.
  • Must attend in-person donor meetings, community events, fundraising events, and off-site activities, including the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Supervisory Requirements:

Directly supervise Marketing & Events Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, business, public relations, marketing, nonprofit management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, nonprofit development, sales, relationship management, or related field, preferably in the Santa Clarita Valley.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make donor, sponsor, or funding asks.
  • Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, fundraising platforms, or similar tools required; Bloomerang experience preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, donor relationships, campaigns and sponsorships.
  • Comfort working with donors, board members, executives, business leaders, foundations, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Ability to track metrics, prepare reports, and use donor data to support fundraising strategy.
  • Relationship-driven, confident, professional, and mission-focused.
  • Comfortable asking for financial support and following up with donors, sponsors, and funders.

  • Passion for the mission of Child & Family Center and the children, youth, adults, and families served.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Windows required (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record under the Agency's commercial liability policy.
  • Must pass all applicable health, fingerprint/LiveScan and DMV clearances.
