Responsibilities

  • Oversee health and performance of construction projects nationally, providing insights to the VP of Construction.
  • Lead special projects and strategic initiatives from inception to completion for the VP of Construction.
  • Develop and maintain operational processes and procedures to ensure consistency across teams.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of project KPIs, financial performance, and produce executive-level reports.
  • Monitor financial metrics to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track construction milestones and contractor productivity to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align resources and remove operational roadblocks.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, developing contingency plans when necessary.

Full Job Description
The Director of Construction Operations is responsible for driving operational excellence across all construction projects by leading data analysis, process development, and special projects on behalf of the VP of Construction. This role oversees the overall health of projects nationwide, ensuring that schedules, budgets, KPIs, and reporting standards are consistently met across all regional teams.

Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the overall health and performance of construction projects across multiple regions, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to the VP of Construction.
  • Leads and takes ownership of special projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of the VP of Construction, from concept through execution and post-implementation review.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains construction operational processes, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency across all teams nationally.
  • Conducts in-depth data analysis on project KPIs, schedules, budgets, and productivity metrics; produces dashboards and executive-level reports for the VP of Construction.
  • Monitors project financial performance including budget variance, cost-per-mile, capital expenditures, and operating expenses; identifies trends and recommends corrective actions to keep projects on track.
  • Tracks and analyzes construction milestones, build velocity, forecasts, and contractor productivity to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Permitting, Materials, Finance, and Field Operations to remove roadblocks and align resources to project priorities.
  • Identifies, manages, and mitigates project risks; develops contingency plans and escalates critical issues to the VP of Construction with recommended solutions.
  • Manages contractor and vendor performance metrics; supports scorecard development, quarterly business reviews, and continuous improvement of third-party relationships.
  • Leads recurring project status reviews and operational cadence meetings; prepares materials for executive and board-level reporting.
  • Performs management responsibilities including interviewing and training staff, planning and assigning work, appraising performance, and resolving problems; develops and mentors the construction operations team.12. Performs other related duties as assigned by the VP of Construction.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, or appropriate equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 8 years of construction operations or project management experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role; fiber optic, telecommunications, or ISP industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence tools (advanced Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent), including the ability to build dashboards and translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs), standardized processes, and operational best practices across multi-site or multi region teams.
  • Strong project management, business writing, and executive-level reporting skills, with experience preparing materials for senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of outside plant construction (aerial and underground), fiber optic networks, permitting, make-ready, site acquisition, and construction budget development and execution.
  • Solid business acumen with strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, and exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed and to work a flexible Full Time schedule that may include weekends and holidays. Must have an active and clean, non-restrictive, state-issued driver's license in the state where hired.
