Description

Director of Construction:

As a member of the company's Corporate Development team, the Director of Construction is responsible for leading a team of Construction Project Managers while directly managing assigned capital construction projects and a broader portfolio of strategic initiatives. The Director provides leadership, governance, oversight, and execution across development, expansion, redevelopment, and customer deployment initiatives while ensuring successful project delivery and team performance.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead, mentor, develop, and manage a team of Construction Project Managers.
  • Directly manage large-scale, high-value, and strategically significant construction projects.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, commissioning, and turnover across assigned projects and portfolio activities.
  • Manage PM staffing, workload balancing, and resource allocation across multiple markets and projects.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for project delivery risks, schedule impacts, budget variances, and contractor performance issues.
  • Establish project management standards, governance processes, reporting requirements, and stage-gate reviews.
  • Lead executive-level project reviews and portfolio reporting.
  • Support annual capital planning, forecasting, and long-range development initiatives.
  • Oversee all construction phases including pre-construction, bidding, contractor selection, construction oversight, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with internal business groups to develop business cases and support project approvals.
  • Track portfolio KPIs including budget, schedule, safety, commissioning readiness, and customer delivery.
  • Develop succession plans and career development pathways for Project Managers.
  • Drive process improvements, lessons learned, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Promote and demonstrate behaviors consistent with CoreSite's culture and values.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven experience leading and developing project management teams.
  • Strong understanding of mission-critical facilities and construction in live operating environments.
  • Extensive experience managing large-scale data center, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.
  • Deep understanding of permitting, entitlement, design, procurement, and construction management processes.
  • Expertise in commercial construction contracts and equipment procurement agreements.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and teams simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in BlueBeam, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible construction management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing project managers or construction professionals.
  • Experience managing CSA and MEP construction required.
  • Data center experience strongly preferred.

Travel:

Extensive travel (as required - up to two weeks per month)

Compensation: Compensation for this role includes a base salary between $170,800 and $192,800. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity, based upon individual and company performance.
