Job Description

Position Summary

Construction Procurement Solutions part of the STO Building Group is seeking a senior leader to develop and manage a platform-wide strategy for rental equipment, temporary site services and project fleet requirements across the organization.

This role will establish a coordinated national approach to categories that can represent significant spend, particularly on large-scale campuses, data centers and complex projects.

The Senior Director will lead strategic relationships with major national and regional providers, including companies such as United Rentals, Sunbelt Rentals and Herc Rentals, while driving supplier competition, commercial negotiations, operating standards and performance accountability.

The objective is to leverage STO Building Group's scale, improve commercial terms, streamline supplier relationships and give project teams a more disciplined way to manage rental and site-service spend.

Scope

The portfolio may include:
  • General construction equipment rental
  • Aerial lifts, telehandlers and material handling equipment
  • Jobsite trailers and temporary facilities
  • Portable sanitation and site services
  • Temporary storage and fencing
  • Pickup trucks, Gators and project fleet vehicles
  • Fueling, logistics and related rental services
  • Other temporary project infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Strategy & Sourcing
  • Develop STO Building Group's national strategy for rental equipment, site services and fleet
  • Aggregate demand across business units and projects to leverage enterprise purchasing power
  • Determine where national, regional or project-specific agreements create the greatest value
  • Lead competitive sourcing, supplier interviews, negotiations and commercial recommendations
  • Establish preferred supplier relationships while maintaining competition where appropriate

Commercial & Supplier Management

Negotiate and manage:
  • National pricing and discount structures
  • Volume incentives and rebates
  • Mobilization and transportation charges
  • Fuel and environmental fees
  • Long-term rental rates
  • Equipment availability and replacement commitments
  • Billing standards and service levels

Serve as the senior relationship owner for major suppliers and conduct regular business reviews focused on spend, performance, pricing, availability and forecasted demand.

Major Project & Utilization Management

Support major projects in developing rental, fleet and logistics strategies before and during construction.

Create visibility into:
  • Equipment on rent
  • Rental duration and cost
  • Utilization
  • Location
  • Planned off-rent dates
  • Supplier performance

Drive improved utilization by identifying equipment that is idle, duplicated, no longer required, transferable between projects or better purchased than rented.

Fleet & Site Transportation

Develop strategies for pickup trucks, utility vehicles, Gators, golf carts and other project transportation.

Evaluate rental, lease and purchase options based on project duration, utilization and total cost.

Data, Standards & Governance

Develop enterprise reporting around rental and site-service spend, utilization, supplier performance and savings.

Establish practical sourcing and operating standards that improve control without creating unnecessary administrative burden for project teams.

Team Leadership

Initially lead the category at the enterprise level while building the operating model.

As the portfolio grows, develop and manage a team responsible for day-to-day equipment, fleet and site-service management.

On major campus programs, this may include dedicated project personnel responsible for equipment tracking, supplier coordination, utilization and fleet administration.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will bring significant experience in areas such as:
  • Construction equipment rental
  • Construction procurement
  • Fleet management
  • Construction operations
  • Strategic sourcing
  • Supplier management
  • Large-scale project logistics

The individual must be equally comfortable negotiating with senior supplier executives and working directly with field leadership on major construction projects.

Key Measures of Success

Success will be measured by the ability to:
  • Leverage STO Building Group's scale across national suppliers
  • Improve pricing, terms and supplier performance
  • Reduce unnecessary rental spend and idle equipment
  • Improve equipment availability and utilization
  • Create visibility into enterprise rental and fleet spend
  • Reduce administrative burden on project teams
  • Build a scalable platform and team to support STO Building Group's largest projects

The Opportunity

STO Building Group's scale creates an opportunity to manage rental equipment, fleet and temporary site services as an enterprise category rather than a series of individual project purchases.

This role will turn that scale into stronger commercial leverage, better supplier relationships, improved operational control and measurable value across the organization.

Salary range
  • $175,000-$225,000
  • Eligible for discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
