JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Communications leads Moorings Park Communities' enterprise communications function and serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, Executive Directors, TrueSpan, the Foundation, and department leaders. The Director is responsible for internal clarity, executive messaging, communications governance, resident and family communications, public relations, crisis communications, and organizational storytelling across all Moorings Park Communities and business lines.
This leader translates complex operational and strategic information into clear, timely, polished communications while ensuring operational leaders retain ownership of decisions, facts, and final approvals. The Director builds a consistent communications system that strengthens resident satisfaction, partner engagement, public reputation, and organizational confidence.
JOB FUNCTIONS: - Create and execute an enterprise communications strategy aligned with organizational priorities, mission, values, brand standards, and business objectives.
- Serve as communications advisor to the Executive Leadership Team, Executive Directors, TrueSpan leadership, the Foundation, and department leaders.
- Lead message development, writing, editing, tone, audience segmentation, channel selection, timing, visual presentation, and distribution planning.
- Establish communications governance, style standards, review protocols, templates, editorial calendars, approval processes, and message archives.
- Develop executive communications, including leadership emails, speeches, talking points, presentations, Board communications, video scripts, and public statements.
- Lead resident and family communications for operational updates, policy changes, construction updates, service enhancements, significant concerns, and enterprise initiatives.
- Oversee community newsletters, TrueSpan content, resident presentations, town halls, institute-level memos, partner communications, and high-visibility publications.
- Provide counsel for sensitive issues, reputational risk, organizational change, emergencies, and crisis response.
- Lead proactive public relations and media relations, including story development, press releases, media materials, interview preparation, and reputation-building opportunities.
- Identify and amplify resident achievements, partner accomplishments, community partnerships, volunteer efforts, clinical excellence, innovation, philanthropy, and organizational milestones.
- Oversee communications production across digital, print, presentation, photography, video, web, social, email, and other approved channels.
- Lead and develop communications team members and manage external writers, designers, photographers, videographers, public relations partners, and other vendors.
- Manage communications budgets, vendor scopes, schedules, deliverables, quality, and performance standards.
- Monitor communication effectiveness, resident and partner feedback, engagement, message consistency, public relations results, and continuous-improvement opportunities.
- Protect confidential information and exercise discretion when handling executive, resident, partner, legal, operational, or reputational matters.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible communications, public relations, corporate communications, or related experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience developing executive, internal, resident, stakeholder, crisis, and public-facing communications.
- Experience leading communications professionals and managing agencies, freelancers, vendors, budgets, and complex production schedules.
- Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and message-development portfolio across multiple formats and audiences.
- Strong judgment, discretion, diplomacy, project management, and ability to manage competing deadlines.
Preferred: Experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, luxury services, nonprofit organizations, or another regulated and reputation-sensitive environment; experience supporting executives, Boards, and multi-site operations; and familiarity with Southwest Florida media
