Purpose

  • Leads the overall strategy, execution, and delivery of Commercial Data and AI initiatives across Canadian Banking Engineering, partnering with business stakeholders and engineering teams to enable data-driven decision making.
  • This role is responsible for defining and delivering scalable data and AI solutions supporting Commercial Banking use cases (e.g., client analytics, risk insights, and revenue growth initiatives). The Director ensures end-to-end accountability for data ingestion, transformation, governance, and advanced analytics platforms across enterprise ecosystems such as Enterprise Data Lake (EDL), Enterprise Data Warehouse, and cloud-based analytics platforms.
  • You will lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with senior business and technology partners to align commercial data strategy with enterprise priorities, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-quality data solutions that comply with regulatory and governance standards.

  • Define and lead the Commercial Data & AI strategy, driving alignment between business priorities and technology execution
  • Accountable for end-to-end delivery of commercial data products, including ingestion, transformation, analytics, and AI/ML enablement across enterprise platforms
  • Build strong partnerships with business leaders, product owners, and data consumers to translate commercial use cases into scalable data and AI solutions
  • Oversee a portfolio of data and AI initiatives, managing scope, budget, timelines, risks, and dependencies across multiple concurrent programs
  • Lead and manage diverse teamof data engineers, architects, analysts, and delivery leads across onshore and offshore locations
  • Drive adoption of Big Data, Cloud, and AI technologies (e.g., distributed processing, advanced analytics, ML pipelines) to deliver business outcomes at scale
  • Establish and enforce data governance, quality, and compliance frameworks, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards (e.g., SOX, internal risk controls)
  • Provide executive-level reporting and communication, including status updates, risk insights, and strategic recommendations to VP+ stakeholders
  • Champion innovation in AI/ML use cases for Commercial Banking, enabling predictive analytics, automation, and intelligent decisioning
  • Lead vendor engagement and technology selection, including contract negotiation and platform strategy decisions
  • Drive operational excellence through process optimization, automation, and continuous improvement across data delivery and support functions
  • Establish a high-performance culture, fostering collaboration, innovation, mentorship, and talent development across teams
  • Ensure platform stability, resilience, and scalability, partnering with risk and reliability functions to maintain high system availability and service levels


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience, with significant leadership experience in data engineering, analytics, or AI platforms
  • Proven experience delivering enterprise data platforms and large-scale data programs, including Big Data and Cloud ecosystems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, GCP/Azure, Databricks)
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, ETL/ELT pipelines, and advanced analytics frameworks
  • Experience in Commercial Banking or Financial Services data domains (e.g., client, lending, risk, revenue analytics)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex delivery portfolios, including global/offshore team structures (both line and project management an asset)
  • Expertise in stakeholder management, with the ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership and business partners
  • Strong program and portfolio management skills, including budgeting, vendor management, and prioritization of competing initiatives
  • Experience driving Agile / DevOps / DataOps delivery models and modern engineering practices
  • Deep understanding of data governance, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven track record of leading IT initiatives or data-driven innovation programs, with a PMP or equivalent certifications as assets
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and people development skills, with the ability to build and retain high-performing teams
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience preferred; advanced degree or masters an asset
