Full Job Description

aEvinova as a Director of Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps in our Platform team, leading the architecture and operations of our AWS cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and developer platform. Shape the foundation that powers next-generation digital products for clinical trials and patient outcomes.

Our team is a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment, and you will often be working with team members across multiple locations around the globe. This is an on-site role.

The Role:

As Director of Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps, you will lead a team of approximately 15 engineers and serve as the technical and organizational leader for one of the most critical functions in the company. This is not a hands-off management role. We expect this person to be our most experienced cloud and DevOps practitioner. Someone who can operate at both the strategic and tactical level, who has built and run cloud infrastructure organizations, and who still gets into the details when it matters. You should be as comfortable reviewing IaC templates and debugging networking issues as you are setting team strategy and presenting to senior leadership. Strong opinions grounded in deep, hands-on experience are essential.

  • AWS Infrastructure & Architecture: Full ownership of our AWS environment including account strategy, compute, storage, and security baseline. This role requires extensive AWS networking expertise, you will own the design and operation of our network architecture including VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, PrivateLink, Route 53, load balancing (ALB/NLB), Network Firewall, and hybrid connectivity patterns. You will define and evolve the architectural patterns for how we build and run workloads in AWS, with a strong emphasis on Kubernetes (EKS) and container-based architectures.

  • DevOps, CI/CD & Developer Platform: Strategy and execution for deployment pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar), release management, and developer tooling. You will own the developer platform: the internal tools, workflows, and self-service capabilities that our engineering teams rely on to build, test, and ship software efficiently. Developer experience is a first-class concern for this role; you will be responsible for reducing friction, improving developer productivity, and ensuring that our platform empowers engineers rather than slowing them down.

  • Team Leadership: Hiring, developing, and retaining a high-performing team. You will set the technical bar, coach your engineers, and create an environment where people do their best work.

  • Multi-Cloud Strategy: While AWS is our primary cloud provider globally and in China, we are actively evaluating additional cloud providers both in and outside of China to support new AI model advancements and evolving business needs. You will own our multi-cloud approach: defining the strategy, evaluating providers, and ensuring our infrastructure can operate across cloud environments without compromising reliability, security, or operational consistency.

  • AI Infrastructure (Collaboration): You will collaborate closely with our ML Operations team to enable cutting-edge AI infrastructure for our software engineers and data science teams. This includes ensuring the underlying compute, networking, and platform services are optimized to support AI/ML workloads, model training, and inference at scale. You will also partner with the ML Operations lead on the multi-cloud approach to AI models, ensuring we can leverage the best available infrastructure across providers as the AI landscape evolves.

  • Cloud FinOps (Collaboration): While our Platform Operations team owns FinOps, you will partner closely with your peer in Platform Operations on cost optimization, budgeting, and financial accountability for our AWS spend. You will be expected to bring infrastructure-level insight into cost drivers, support showback and chargeback practices, and ensure that architectural and operational decisions account for cost efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps, with at least 5 years in a people management role leading teams of meaningful size.

  • Deep, hands-on experience designing and operating production workloads in AWS. You understand AWS services not just conceptually but from the perspective of someone who has built and scaled real systems. AWS certifications are expected (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional).

  • Significant experience with Kubernetes (preferably EKS) and ECS Fargate, container orchestration, service mesh, and the operational practices needed to run containerized workloads reliably at scale.

  • Strong background in IaC tooling (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar) and a firm belief that infrastructure should be versioned, reviewed, and deployed like application code.

  • Proven track record of building and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and developer experience at an organizational level.

  • Demonstrated experience using AI-powered engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar to accelerate infrastructure development, automate operational workflows, and improve team productivity. You should be actively incorporating these tools into your own work and capable of driving adoption across your team.

  • Familiarity with cloud cost governance practices and the ability to partner with operations leadership on spend visibility and optimization without compromising engineering velocity.

  • You have built, scaled, and led infrastructure or platform teams. You know how to hire well, set clear expectations, develop people, and create accountability. You are comfortable operating at the director level — influencing strategy, presenting to senior leadership, and making tradeoffs.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.). Familiarity with the compliance and validation requirements that shape how infrastructure is designed and operated in these settings will accelerate your impact.

  • Experience navigating the unique regulatory, architectural, and operational considerations of running cloud infrastructure in China, including familiarity with AWS China Regions (operated by Sinnet/NWCD), data residency requirements, and the differences in service availability and compliance compared to global AWS regions. Experience with Alibaba Cloud or other non-AWS cloud providers is a nice to have, as is experience designing and operating multi-cloud environments.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional certification

  • Experience with multi-account AWS strategies (AWS Organizations, Control Tower, Landing Zones)

  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring stacks (Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, or similar)

  • Experience with security-focused infrastructure practices (Zero Trust, secrets management, compliance automation)

  • Background in SaaS product companies, particularly B2B or enterprise SaaS

Key Attributes

  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to connect system-level technical decisions to business outcomes, cost optimization and ROI.

  • Strategic thinker, able to balance long-term architectural vision with pragmatic, incremental delivery and technical debt management.

  • Clear and confident communicator, able to explain complex technical concepts and system designs to non-technical stakeholders and senior leaders.

  • Collaborative mindset, building trusted partnerships across engineering, product, security, compliance, enterprise architecture and business teams.

  • Comfortable operating at scale and ambiguity, with the ability to simplify complexity and set clear direction for multiple teams.

  • Passion for mentoring and developing others, creating an environment of continual learning, technical excellence and healthy challenge.

  • Curiosity and continuous learning mindset, staying abreast of emerging technologies and practices in cloud, data, integration, security and AI.

  • Ownership mentality with a strong focus on quality, reliability, resilience and user experience for the systems you design.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from 203,213.60 - 304,820.40 USD. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.

Interested? Come and join our journey. So, what’s next! Are you already imagining yourself joining our team? Good, because we can’t wait to hear from you.
