Job DescriptionThe Clinical Operations Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the UC Neuroscience Institute, partnering with physicians, executive leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to support exceptional patient outcomes, operational excellence, and organizational growth.
The Clinical Operations Director is responsible for directing, administering, and coordinating the operational activities of the UC Neuroscience Institute. This leader provides oversight of clinical and business operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, quality standards, and financial objectives.
Working closely with physicians, department leaders, and executive stakeholders, the Clinical Operations Director supports the Institute's mission of delivering outstanding patient care, advancing medical education, and promoting research initiatives within a fiscally responsible environment. The position serves as a key operational partner in developing strategies, improving performance, driving growth, and enhancing the patient and provider experience across the neuroscience service line.
ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership- Direct and oversee day-to-day operations of the UC Neuroscience Institute.
- Develop, implement, and monitor operational policies, procedures, and workflows.
- Ensure alignment of operational activities with organizational goals and strategic initiatives.
- Lead operational planning efforts to support growth, efficiency, and service excellence.
Physician and Stakeholder Partnership- Collaborate with physicians, department chairs, institute leadership, and executive stakeholders to achieve clinical and operational objectives.
- Foster strong relationships across departments to ensure effective coordination of services.
- Support physician engagement, program development, and service line growth initiatives.
Financial Management- Develop and manage operational budgets and resource plans.
- Monitor financial performance, productivity metrics, and operational benchmarks.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize resource utilization.
- Support business planning and strategic growth initiatives.
Quality and Performance Improvement- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Monitor key performance indicators and implement action plans to improve outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
- Support initiatives focused on patient experience, quality, safety, and access to care.
Leadership and Talent Development- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to management and operational staff.
- Oversee staffing, performance management, employee development, and succession planning activities.
- Build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
- Champion organizational values and foster employee engagement.
Mission Support- Advance the Institute's missions of patient care, education, research, and innovation.
- Support organizational initiatives that improve clinical effectiveness and operational performance.
- Promote collaboration across clinical, academic, and administrative functions.
QualificationsRequired Education- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.
Preferred Education- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), Nursing, or a related healthcare discipline.
Required Experience- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible healthcare operations, physician practice management, ambulatory operations, hospital operations, or related healthcare leadership experience.
- Five (5) years of leadership experience with direct responsibility for operational performance, staff management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a complex healthcare environment.
Preferred Experience- Experience within an academic medical center, integrated health system, or large physician practice environment.
- Experience supporting neuroscience, neurology, neurosurgery, or other specialty service lines.
- Demonstrated success leading operational improvement, growth, and change management initiatives.
