NOW HIRING - Director of Claims

About the Role
Professional Transportation, Inc. (PTI) is seeking an experienced Director of Claims to lead our Claims Management Program and help reduce risk and control claim-related costs.

This position oversees FELA, non-FELA casualty, and workers' compensation claims, including litigation strategy and settlement coordination. The Director partners closely with senior leadership, legal counsel, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, railroad customers, and internal teams and supervises approximately two direct reports.

What You'll Do
  • Manage litigated FELA and non-FELA casualty claims from initial filing through resolution.
  • Develop claim and litigation strategies in partnership with outside counsel, insurance carriers, railroad customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Select and manage outside counsel and other claim-related vendors.
  • Oversee discovery, investigations, surveillance, mediations, trials, appeals, and other litigation activities.
  • Evaluate claim exposure and coordinate settlement strategies and authority with PTI leadership.
  • Review legal expenses and outside counsel billing to ensure appropriate cost management.
  • Oversee the reporting, investigation, and resolution of workers' compensation claims.
  • Manage workers' compensation litigation, subrogation efforts, and quarterly reserve reviews.
  • Develop and improve claims policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor claim trends, case law, and regulatory changes to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with PTI's Risk, Safety, and Leadership Teams to develop strategies that reduce claims and organizational risk.
  • Provide claims-related guidance and education to leaders and employees.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate would have:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree is minimally required, in a related field is preferred

Experience:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in risk management, claims adjusting or claims management, safety, or a related field is required.
  • Experience in the railroad industry is preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently with sound judgment.
  • Proactive leadership and management style with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any state-required adjuster's license.
