*ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT FULL-TIME ANNUALLY PAID PARKS EMPLOYEES* *This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent City employees serving in the Administrative Engineer civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) permanent City employees in or on leave from a comparable title with a valid New York State Professional Engineer License or 4) candidates who are reachable on the Administrative Engineer civil service list, Exam No. 5163. With a dedicated team, the Director of Citywide Engineering is a leadership position at NYC Parks responsible for designing and tackling engineering solutions for beloved public spaces and structures. The work of this unit impacts neighborhood growth, public health, local commerce and sustainability initiatives throughout the five boroughs of New York City. The portfolio of engineering projects is fascinating and unparalleled. The setting for these projects is on the main stage of the world's most renowned Park system and City. Major Responsibilities -Under direction of the Citywide Services' Chief of Operations, manage the electrical and mechanical engineering staff including assigning projects and monitoring workloads, following up with staff on project progress and schedule, reviewing technical work, approving timesheets and leave requests, monitoring job performance and performing employee evaluations, and updating staff on any relevant agency or division matters. -Serve as lead engineer and manager on structural engineering projects and programs. -Manage inspections, consultant contracts, in-house assignments, procurement and design and construction. -Technical supervision and mentoring of Engineering staff to ensure quality work and on-time project delivery. -Develop and ensure project schedules, budgets and technical quality assurance/quality control. -Perform condition surveys/assessments, background/document research, feasibility studies, scope determination, estimates on existing or proposed infrastructure and prepare reports. -Perform structural design calculations and provide details/drawings for filing and construction. -Develop requests for proposals, contracts, work orders and other tasks related to consultant procurement. -Conduct field inspections before and during design and construction, through turnover, to proactively identify and resolve problems. -Act as subject-matter expert to represent the engineering team within and externally to the Agency. -Propose and develop improvements to processes and programs to better advance the team's mission. -Complete internal administrative tasks using Parks software and other systems. -Ensure timely completion of design projects and transmittal of bid documents. -Ensure projects are consistently designed and executed according to best practices and properly filed with Department of Buildings or any other authorities having jurisdiction. -Coordinate project-specific intra- and inter-agency projects, such as design coordination, stakeholder input, permits, design presentations and approvals. -Serve as agency-wide point person for technical consultation within the appropriate engineering field. -Facilitate rapid problem-solving on issues that arise during construction or conditions that may pose a danger to the public. -Coordinate project-specific intra- and inter-agency projects, such as design coordination, stakeholder input, permits, design presentations and approvals. -Serve as agency-wide point person for technical consultation within the appropriate engineering field. -Serve as Engineering Department liaison and attend meetings with architects, landscape architects, consultants, contractors, stakeholders and representatives of other agencies. -Report to the Deputy Chief of Operations daily and assist with all other day-to-day operations of the department.
