Job DescriptionEllis Island Casino is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Cage to provide leadership, oversight, and direction for all Cage operations. This role is responsible for protecting company assets, ensuring compliance with all Nevada Gaming regulations, Title 31 (BSA/AML) requirements, and Internal Control Systems, while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence, financial accountability, and guest service.
The Director of Cage serves as the department leader responsible for the overall performance of Cage operations, including Main Bank, Chip Bank, Team Member Bank, and all associated cash handling functions. This position develops department strategy, oversees financial controls, manages labor and operating budgets, leads departmental leaders, and serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, compliance personnel, and executive leadership. The Director of Cage plays a critical role in safeguarding company assets, ensuring regulatory compliance, enhancing operational efficiency, and developing future leaders within the organization.

ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Department Management - Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all Cage operations.
- Develop and execute department goals, initiatives, and strategic plans aligned with company objectives.
- Establish departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, security, compliance, and guest service.
- Participate in executive and operational leadership meetings.
- Lead departmental planning efforts related to growth, technology, process improvements, and operational excellence.
- Provide recommendations to executive leadership regarding business initiatives, resource allocation, and regulatory compliance matters.
- Ensure departmental operations support organizational objectives and financial goals.
Operational Control & Asset Protection - Direct all Cage operational activities to ensure the secure handling of currency, coin, chips, markers, TITO transactions, and financial instruments.
- Ensure all Cage operations comply with approved Internal Control Systems, Nevada Gaming regulations, and company policies.
- Oversee vault operations, key control procedures, and asset protection measures.
- Maintain accountability for all Cage inventories, including currency, coin, and chip banks.
- Review and monitor daily balancing procedures and transaction reconciliations.
- Ensure proper completion of opening, closing, and shift change procedures.
- Implement controls to safeguard company assets and minimize operational risk.
- Review operational trends and take corrective action when necessary.
Financial Management & Budget Oversight - Develop, manage, and administer the annual Cage operating budget.
- Monitor labor expenses, departmental expenditures, and operational costs.
- Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for cost control and operational improvement.
- Review productivity metrics and transaction volumes to ensure efficient staffing and resource utilization.
- Approve departmental purchases and capital equipment requests.
- Prepare executive-level financial reports and recommendations.
- Support financial planning and forecasting initiatives.
Cage Operations & Financial Transactions - Oversee all Cage banking functions, including Main Bank, Chip Bank, Team Member Bank, and associated service windows.
- Ensure compliance with transaction authorization requirements and approval thresholds.
- Maintain oversight of check cashing, marker issuance and redemption, jackpot transactions, TITO exchanges, chip transfers, and credit-related transactions.
- Ensure all Cage documentation is accurately completed, reviewed, and retained.
- Monitor transaction activity to identify unusual trends or operational concerns.
- Ensure accuracy and accountability in all Cage transactions and financial reporting.
Regulatory Compliance, Title 31 & Risk Management - Maintain full compliance with Nevada Gaming regulations, Title 31 (BSA/AML) requirements, and Internal Control Systems.
- Serve as the primary liaison with gaming regulators, auditors, compliance personnel, and external agencies.
- Oversee the identification, reporting, and documentation of CTRs, MTLs, MILs, SAR-related escalations, and other required reports.
- Ensure all regulatory reporting is completed accurately and within required timeframes.
- Lead investigations involving variances, financial discrepancies, exceptions, and regulatory concerns.
- Develop corrective action plans and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
- Monitor regulatory changes and implement departmental updates as required.
- Ensure regulatory audits and inspections are successfully completed.
Leadership, Talent Development & Workforce Planning - Directly supervise Cage Supervisors and other designated leadership personnel.
- Establish departmental performance standards and accountability measures.
- Lead workforce planning initiatives to maintain appropriate staffing levels.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership development.
- Support succession planning and identify future leaders within the department.
- Partner with Human Resources regarding recruitment, onboarding, training, employee relations, investigations, and corrective action.
- Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development.
- Ensure all team members receive required operational and compliance training.
Guest Service & Interdepartmental Collaboration - Ensure guest transactions are handled professionally, accurately, confidentially, and efficiently.
- Resolve guest escalations and service issues relating to Cage operations.
- Foster positive relationships with guests while maintaining compliance with all policies and controls.
- Collaborate with Surveillance, Compliance, Revenue Audit, Slots, Table Games, Security, Finance, and other operational departments.
- Support enterprise-wide operational initiatives and special projects.
Reporting, Audit Support & Business Analytics - Prepare and present operational, compliance, financial, labor, and audit-related reports.
- Monitor key performance indicators and operational metrics.
- Analyze trends affecting transaction volume, labor utilization, compliance performance, and asset protection.
- Provide executive leadership with recommendations based on operational data and business analysis.
- Support internal audits, external audits, gaming inspections, and financial reviews.
- Ensure department records are maintained in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
Skills / Experience - Must be 21 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive casino Cage operations experience.
- Minimum of four (4) years of management experience in a leadership role overseeing supervisors and/or managers.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Extensive knowledge of Cage operations, banking procedures, financial controls, and asset protection practices.
- Advanced knowledge of Nevada Gaming regulations, Internal Controls, and Title 31 (BSA/AML) requirements.
- Strong leadership, coaching, team-building, and workforce development skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong financial acumen and budget management capabilities.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, highly regulated gaming environment.
- Proficiency in Cage management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
Licensing Requirements - Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Gaming Registration.
- Must be able to pass all required background investigations and drug screening requirements.
Physical Requirements - Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of bags of cash and chips.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, kneel, crouch, and bend.
- Ability to speak effectively and clearly.
- Use hands to handle objects and operate machinery.
- Ability to be exposed to smoke and noise levels between moderate to loud on the casino floor.
