Job DescriptionPosition PurposeLead automation innovation, technology strategy, and capability development to create scalable manufacturing solutions and future competitive advantage. The Director partners with the Global Advanced Manufacturing organization, Operations and business leaders to identify high-value opportunities and build future capability. The role is accountable for developing tomorrow's solutions while ensuring technologies are practical, repeatable, supportable and aligned with safety, quality, productivity and growth priorities.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnology Strategy & Roadmaps• Develop and maintain automation technology roadmaps aligned with AMS, business priorities and manufacturing needs.
• Evaluate emerging and enabling technologies, including robotics, machine vision, AI-enabled inspection, autonomous systems, advanced controls, additive manufacturing and digital solutions.
• Define platform direction, development priorities and criteria for moving concepts from feasibility to scaled deployment.
Innovation & Application Development• Lead advanced development, proof-of-concept and application engineering activities focused on high-value opportunities.
• Build repeatable solutions that can be transferred across products, processes, plants and business platforms.
• Partner with manufacturing teams to validate performance, adoption needs and lifecycle requirements.
Equipment Solutions & Internal Development• Provide strategic direction and resource focus for Equipment Solutions capabilities.
• Guide concept development, technical feasibility, equipment architecture and design decisions.
Supplier & Technology Partnerships• Develop preferred suppliers and evaluate new partners with Application Development and key stakeholders.
• Use external capability where it improves speed, expertise, scalability or business value.
Portfolio, Standards & Capability• Manage the innovation and development portfolio using value, feasibility, strategic fit, risk and resource capacity.
• Support enterprise automation standards, engineering platforms and governance in partnership with Global Advanced Manufacturing leadership.
• Build technical capability, leadership depth and succession across engineering and equipment development teams.
Experience & Capabilities• Degree in Engineering or a related technical field; advanced degree is a plus.
• Significant leadership experience in manufacturing automation, equipment engineering, technology development or advanced manufacturing.
• Demonstrated success moving new technologies from concept and feasibility into reliable manufacturing use.
• Broad knowledge of automation systems, robotics, controls, machine vision, inspection, equipment integration and development processes.
• Strong business judgment with the ability to balance innovation, technical risk, speed, standardization and return on investment.
• Ability to lead through influence, build cross-functional partnerships and communicate effectively with technical and executive audiences.
