Description

The Director of Admissions holds overall accountability for the leadership, administration, and continuous improvement of the Admissions process at Surfpoint Recovery. This role ensures that admissions operations support census goals, uphold regulatory standards, and deliver a positive patient experience from first contact through admission. The Director provides direct supervision to all admissions personnel, workflows, and interdepartmental coordination.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide executive oversight of daily admissions operations, ensuring workflows are efficient, compliant, and patient-centered.
  • Direct patient census reporting; ensure all data is timely, accurate, and accessible to relevant leadership.
  • Establish and monitor systems for tracking inquiries, admissions, denials, and referral source activity.
  • Oversee transportation coordination for patients who do not meet admission criteria or require alternative placement.
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges within the admissions process to optimize patient outcomes and minimize barriers to care.
  • Ensure all admissions documentation, authorization forms, LOCADTR3 screenings, and medical clearance records are completed accurately and within required timeframes.
  • Ensure departmental operations are fully compliant with all applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements, including OASAS (or applicable licensing body) standards.
  • Monitor and audit admissions documentation including outside attachments, LOCADTR3 screenings, and medical clearance forms to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead weekly departmental meetings to review performance metrics, communicate operational updates, address quality concerns, and reinforce compliance expectations.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans in response to quality or compliance deficiencies identified through audits, surveys, or internal review.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the facility, the intake team, marketers, referral sources, payers, and community partners.
  • Build and sustain strong, professional relationships with referral sources, clinical partners, and managed care organizations to support census development.
  • Represent the Admissions Department in interdisciplinary meetings, facility leadership forums, and external engagements.
  • Act as a liaison between admissions and all relevant department heads to facilitate seamless care transitions and resolve access issues promptly.
  • Partner with the marketing and business development teams to align admissions capacity with census targets and program growth goals.
  • Identify trends in referral patterns, insurance authorizations, and denial management; develop strategies to address gaps and optimize performance.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain qualified admissions personnel in alignment with Surfpoint Recovery staffing standards.
  • Provide direct supervision to all admissions staff, including cross-functional admissions personnel.
  • Develop and distribute the monthly departmental schedule; ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times to support patient admissions.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations; provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities for all direct reports.
  • Oversee comprehensive training of all admissions staff on the full admissions workflow, regulatory requirements, and customer service standards.


Requirements

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in admissions, patient access, or a related healthcare operations role required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience required, preferably within a behavioral health, substance use treatment, or inpatient setting.
  • Experience working with OASAS-certified programs or other behavioral health regulatory frameworks strongly preferred
