Full Job Description
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Manages the development, design, and manufacturing of assembly processes, tools and machines that will effectively and efficiently manufacture the company's products.
  • Supervise purchasing new and used equipment, as well as design and construction methods for in-house equipment.
  • Act as product design consultant by working with Product Engineering to provide Manufacturing Engineering viewpoints.
  • Provide technical expertise and organization to defective paint/steel problems as well as R&D on new systems.
  • Responsible for floor plans, layouts and concepts of new buildings and upgrading of existing buildings and product manufacturing facilities.
  • Responsible for start-ups of new product manufacturing lines, debug and streamline productivity, ensure adequate raw materials and finished product quality.
  • Responsible for quality control decision making, including spot checks plant wide to determine improvement needs.


Controls Engineering

  • Responsible for the design, installation, optimization, and enhancement of electronic control systems and instruments to automate and monitor industrial processes.


Strategic and Tactical Planning

  • Responsible for providing strategic leadership regarding all issues relating to the manufacturing engineering function of the Company.
  • Assist the Vice President of Operations with developing long-term corporate strategies based on changing competitive, financial and market conditions.
  • Formalize and document a departmental plan that achieves strategic and tactical goals set for the Company, including managerial development and continuous improvement of staff.
  • Prepare capital and expense budgets, including expenditures guidance, and supervise the ongoing record of all expenditures.


Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering related field from four-year college or university plus 10 years minimum experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.

Certificates and Licenses:

PE preferred.

Metal Forming Experience:

10+ years experience in metal forming. Must have experience in the design of dies and tools for forming metal. Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and concerns. Experience in developing training for engineers, maintenance, and production personnel. Experience in purchasing capital equipment and running capital projects.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables for problem solving.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, the qualified individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft suite applications, CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and ERP Systems (JD Edwards preferred).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages the manufacturing engineering and Controls function and carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include setting priorities, planning and assigning work, hiring, coaching, developing, and appraising performance, addressing complaints, resolving problems, and building a high-performing manufacturing engineering team aligned with business objectives. Ten years managerial experience required.
