Job Summary: The IT Portfolio Director leads the Information Technology Project Management Office (IT PMO) Portfolio function and ensures technology-enabled initiatives are prioritized, governed, resourced, executed, and aligned with CaroMont Health's strategic objectives. This role provides enterprise portfolio oversight across IT projects through effective intake management, governance support, resource capacity planning, vendor coordination, risk management, and Executive reporting.
Enterprise Partnership and Governance In support of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this individual ensures proposed and approved work is clearly defined, strategically aligned, appropriately sequenced, and delivered using consistent PMO standards. Key partnerships and collabroations include leadership within Strategy and Business Development, Operational Finance, IT leadership, CaroMont and CaroMont Medical Group operational leaders, clinical and business stakeholders, project sponsors, vendors, and governance committees.
Core Capabilities and Organizational Impact The IT Portfolio Director demonstrates strong leadership, communication, facilitation, analytical thinking, healthcare IT knowledge, and portfolio management discipline. The role balances organizational demand with available IT and Operational capacity; promotes innovation and cross-functional collaboration; and ensures programs support regulatory standards, organizational goals, and evolving healthcare needs.
PMO Leadership and Team Development The Director leads the Portfolio/Program Management Office providing direction and oversight of a team of Program and Project Manager professionals. This includes providing coaching, mentorship, and performance guidance to promote professional growth and high performance across the PMO team.
Additional Leadership Scope At the discretion of the Vice President of Information Technology and CIO, this position may also direct and manage additional IT teams, including teams supporting enterprise platforms such as ERP or EHR systems. In this capacity, the Director provides collaborative oversight for the development, adoption, and ongoing optimization of related core systems.
Qualifications:Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Project Management, or a related field required. Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related professional discipline required. Minimum seven years of progressive experience in information technology, healthcare operations, portfolio management, program management, or project management required, including experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
Required Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP) .Preferred: Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing or a relevant clinical field with three years of experience in a clinical setting. Prior progressive leadership experience in a healthcare IT environment strongly preferred.
Key Skills and Special Knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to engage executive leaders, project sponsors, operational stakeholders, physicians, IT teams, and vendor partners. Strong analytical, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-support skills. Proven ability to manage competing priorities, develop governance-ready recommendations, lead through influence, and support high-quality outcomes in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Thorough knowledge of healthcare IT, project and portfolio management methodologies, governance processes, resource capacity planning, change management, risk management, vendor coordination, and executive reporting. Familiarity with Epic, clinical systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, analytics, ERP, AI-enabled technology, and healthcare regulatory considerations is preferred and highly desired.
