The Opportunity The Director - Investments, Portfolio Construction & Due Diligence will lead the portfolio construction framework supporting Ally Invest Advisors' model offerings, including Robo Portfolios and Personal Advice. This role is responsible for strategic and tactical asset allocation for AIA portfolios, as well as the research, security selection, manager selection, and investment due diligence that support portfolio design and ongoing oversight.
This is a player-coach role requiring both strong investment judgment and hands-on analytical capability. The Director will help shape and enhance portfolio offerings for retail managed and advice clients, ensuring portfolios remain aligned with client objectives, market conditions, and fiduciary standards.
The role also includes a secondary client- and market-facing component, including portfolio analysis, development of market and investment commentary, and support for media inquiries and selected client conversations. The Director will work closely with product strategy, marketing, communications, PR, service, operations, and compliance to ensure investment solutions are well governed, clearly communicated, and appropriate for Ally Invest Advisors' client base.

The Work Itself - Develop and maintain the strategic and tactical asset allocation for AIA portfolios using capital market assumptions, risk and return analysis, quantitative inputs, and market insights
- Lead asset allocation and portfolio construction research to enhance model offerings and support the development of new portfolio solutions, including value- and goal-driven overlays, downside protection strategies, and income-oriented approaches
- Define portfolio construction frameworks, including model criteria, weightings, and rebalancing approaches for multi-asset portfolios, using risk models, optimization techniques, and back-testing where appropriate
- Lead security selection, manager selection, and ongoing investment due diligence
- Conduct analysis of third-party managers, sector and industry trends, ETFs, and other managed products to support investment decisions
- Oversee quarterly performance evaluation, including risk and return analysis, attribution, and presentation to the Investment Committee
- Maintain informed views on market, sector, and macroeconomic developments and communicate recommendations relevant to portfolio strategy
- Monitor risk across client accounts, assess portfolio exposures and risk factors, conduct portfolio reviews, and provide portfolio construction guidance to advisors
- Analyze client and prospect portfolios and communicate portfolio insights, investment rationale, and asset allocation recommendations as needed
- Develop market commentary, quarterly updates, and product reviews for internal and external audiences
- Partner with marketing, communications, and PR to support media inquiries related to market developments, portfolio positioning, and investment strategy
- Provide leadership across portfolio management and investment research while contributing directly to analysis and implementation
The Skills You Bring Minimum Qualifications - 9+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school Diploma or GED equivalent
Preferred Qualifications - 7+ years of experience in asset management, preferably in portfolio management, portfolio construction, asset allocation, or manager research
- FINRA Series 65, or Series 7 and 66 licenses
- CFA designation preferred
- Strong foundation in asset allocation and global capital markets
- Experience with portfolio construction, manager research, investment due diligence, and performance evaluation
- Strong understanding of economics and macro drivers of asset markets
- Knowledge of modern portfolio theory, investment research, and quantitative portfolio analysis
- Experience with back-testing, risk models, and optimization techniques is a plus
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills,
- VBA, Python and other technical/automation skills preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate investment insights for different audiences
- Highly detail-oriented, intellectually curious, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong understanding of managed products, including mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs Familiarity with investment research tools such as Morningstar Direct and TAMP platforms such as Orion and Envestnet

Base Pay Range : $135000 - $235000 USD
An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.
Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
