Responsibilities

  • Direct surveillance of high-risk areas under Infection Control Committee guidance using CDC standards.
  • Prepare and share surveillance data and infection control reports with relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor Infection Control Performance Improvement activities.
  • Interpret and recommend updates on Infection Control standards based on laws and regulations.
  • Manage outbreak situations and liaise with governing agencies regarding these outbreaks.
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness plans addressing bioterrorism and communicable diseases.
  • Participate in environmental care rounds and suggest corrective actions.

Full Job Description
Responsibilities:
  • Directs and implements surveillance of high risk areas, with approval of the Infection Control Committee, using the national Healthcare Safety Network Program benchmarks and guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Prepares surveillance data and Infection Control Reports and disseminates to the appropriate patient care areas, Administration and Medical Board.
  • Monitors all Infection Control Performance Improvement activities.
  • Interprets laws and regulations regarding Infection Control Standards and recommends necessary revisions to Infection Control Practices.
  • Identifies and manages all outbreak situations and acts as a direct liaison for governing agencies with regard to outbreaks.
  • Participates with the Emergency Management Team using the CDC, NYSDOH and Nassau County DOH guidelines to develop plans for Emergency Preparedness Programs regarding Bioterrorism and communicable disease threats, i.e. Pandemic Influenza.
  • Participated in Environmental Care Rounds and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Advises departmental heads of Infection Control Standards and makes recommendations for correction and implementation of these standards.
  • Organizes and presents the data needed for the Infection Control Committee Meetings.
  • Prepares and organizes the Infection Control Sub Committee for Nursing.
  • Develops an Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) for any construction or renovation projects within the hospital.
  • Participates in Infection Control Education for new hires and annually for staff.
  • Reports to the NYSDOH and the NCDOH all communicable diseases or conditions required by law.
  • Develops and revises policies and procedures for the Infection Control Manual.
  • Works with Employee Health Service to identify trends or patterns in occupational exposure to eliminate risk.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.  Attended educational programs in the area of epidemiology.  Baccalaureate Degree is preferred   
  • Nursing experience that has provided opportunities to refine competencies in nursing practice and application of administrative principles, a minimum of four years of acute care nursing experience.  Two years Critical Care experience preferred.              
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, teaching skills, self-directed; 
  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse, CIC Certificate preferred, membership in APIC preferred
Posted Salary RangeUSD $160,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
