OverviewSummary:
The
Director, Indirect Tax exercises significant independent judgment and discretion in leading complex, multi-jurisdictional indirect tax compliance and advisory activities across the global Chenega family of companies. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing and approving indirect tax positions, resolving complex tax matters, overseeing audit readiness, and driving process improvements. Serving as a key advisor on indirect tax obligations and risk, and escalating only complex or high-risk issues, this position serves as a indirect tax SME supporting enterprise-wide compliance objectives established by the Vice President- Corporate Tax.

ResponsibilitiesDuties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation, review and approval of indirect tax filings across multiple entities, ensuring accurate tax treatment, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational standards.
- Exercise advanced independent judgment in interpreting tax laws, determining taxability, sourcing, and jurisdictional requirements for complex transactions.
- Resolve complex tax issues, exposures, and discrepancies, determining appropriate positions and recommending risk mitigation strategies.
- Oversee indirect tax compliance operations, including calendars, filing requirements, and account management, ensuring consistency and accuracy across jurisdictions.
- Direct responses to indirect tax notices and audits, including establishing response strategy, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with external advisors; escalating only material or precedent-setting matters.
- Evaluate audit findings, determine appropriate positions, and recommend resolution strategies in alignment with organizational risk tolerance.
- Monitor changes in indirect tax laws and translate regulatory requirements into actionable guidance for internal stakeholders.
- Serve as a primary advisor to finance, accounting, and operational teams on indirect tax implications, transaction treatment, and compliance risks.
- Lead and implement process improvements, automation initiatives, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and compliance accuracy.
- Oversee the maintenance of audit-ready records and documentation frameworks supporting filed tax positions.
- Guide and mentor junior staff or cross-functional team members, providing technical direction and review oversight.
- Support M&A activities by evaluating indirect tax risks, compliance status, and integration considerations.
- Contribute to development of training materials and deliver guidance on complex indirect tax topics across the organization.
- Cross train with direct tax team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Active CPA license.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience with corporate tax compliance or financial reporting, public accounting firm or corporation.
- Some experience in public accounting.
- Successfully pass background and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in accounting.
- Indirect tax experience in state and local tax compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced tax knowledge to include direct and indirect corporate tax practices and regulations; ability to serve as an SME on day-to-day indirect tax functions.
- Experience with ERP Deltek Costpoint general ledger accounting system and government contracts helpful.
- Experience with Checkpoint online tax research service helpful.
- Experience with Alteryx software helpful.
- Experience with BNA or similar tax fixed asset software helpful.
- Experience with Federal Cost Accounting Standards compliance helpful.
- Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations compliance helpful.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Adobe products helpful

Work Environment:
- The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
- During visits to areas of operations, they may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
