Full Job Description
The Director, Indirect Procurement & Category Management provides strategic leadership for enterprise-wide indirect procurement activities and category management programs. This role is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, supplier management programs, procurement governance, and value creation initiatives across indirect spend categories. The Director partners with executive and functional leaders to ensure procurement strategies support organizational growth, operational excellence, business continuity, regulatory compliance, and financial objectives while leading a team of procurement professionals.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $140k - $200k annual. The actual compensation offered may vary based on job related factors such as experience, skills, education and location.

Enterprise Procurement Strategy
  • Develop and execute a multi-year indirect procurement and category management strategy aligned with organizational objectives, growth initiatives, and financial targets.
  • Translate enterprise priorities into category roadmaps, sourcing plans, supplier strategies, and measurable procurement outcomes.
  • Lead procurement planning processes that optimize total cost of ownership, customer service levels, supplier performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Establish category governance frameworks, sourcing standards, and procurement policies that drive consistency and accountability across the enterprise.


Category Management Leadership
  • Oversee strategic management of indirect spend categories and associated supplier portfolios.
  • Guide development of category strategies informed by market intelligence, benchmarking, business requirements, risk assessments, and stakeholder priorities.
  • Ensure category strategies deliver measurable value through cost optimization, demand management, process efficiency, supplier innovation, and risk reduction.
  • Challenge traditional procurement approaches and identify opportunities to transform how goods and services are procured and managed.


Executive Stakeholder Partnership
  • Serve as strategic business partner to executive leaders, Finance, HR, IT, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Facilities, and functional leadership teams.
  • Influence enterprise decision-making regarding supplier selection, sourcing strategies, investment priorities, and procurement governance.
  • Partner with finance leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, margin improvement, working capital objectives, and long-term planning.
  • Facilitate executive alignment on procurement priorities and major sourcing initiatives.


Supplier Relationship Management
  • Establish and lead executive-level supplier relationship management programs.
  • Build strategic partnerships with critical suppliers to drive innovation, service excellence, business continuity, and operational performance.
  • Conduct executive business reviews and governance forums with strategic suppliers.
  • Ensure performance assessments, scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives are implemented across key supplier relationships.


Risk, Compliance & Resilience
  • Lead supplier risk management strategies focused on business continuity, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, ESG objectives, financial stability, and supply assurance.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for supplier concentration, market disruptions, inflationary pressures, and geopolitical risks.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, Information Security, and Internal Audit to strengthen supplier governance and contractual protections.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulatory expectations and company policies.


Procurement Transformation & Operational Excellence
  • Drive procurement modernization initiatives, including digital procurement tools, analytics, automation, and process improvements.
  • Establish procurement performance metrics, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
  • Champion best practices that advance procurement capability and organizational maturity.


Leadership & Talent Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop category management and sourcing team members.
  • Build organizational capability through succession planning, mentorship, performance management, and talent development.
  • Create an inclusive, high-performing culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and customer service.
  • Serve as a visible leader who promotes enterprise values and procurement excellence.


Required Years/Type of Experience:
  • 10+ years progressive procurement, sourcing, category management, supply chain, or related leadership experience.
  • 5+ years leading procurement, sourcing, or category management teams.
  • Experience managing enterprise-wide indirect spend programs within healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, distribution, or similarly regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated success delivering transformational procurement initiatives and enterprise value creation.
  • Strong executive presence with ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Expertise in strategic sourcing, contracting, supplier management, procurement technology, and financial analysis.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading enterprise procurement transformation initiatives.
  • Experience within healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, distribution, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supplier risk management, contract negotiation, and category strategy.
