Director, Government & Industry Affairs - State & Regional

What you will do in this role

The Director, Government & Industry Affairs - State & Regional will help build and expand Atticus' government and industry affairs presence across North Carolina and priority agricultural states and regions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Government & Industry Affairs and based at Atticus headquarters in Cary, this individual will own Atticus' North Carolina government affairs engagement while developing and managing relationships with policymakers, state agencies, agricultural and industry associations, commodity and grower organizations, and other key stakeholders across priority states and regions.

This is a highly external-facing role requiring strong judgment, initiative and the ability to independently represent Atticus. The Director will identify emerging policy risks and opportunities, translate developments into business impact and recommendations, and ensure Atticus has a meaningful presence where state and regional decisions affecting our freedom to operate, customers and industry are being made.

Responsibilities

• Own North Carolina government affairs. Develop and execute Atticus' engagement strategy with the North Carolina General Assembly, executive branch, state agencies and other policymakers on issues affecting agriculture, crop protection, manufacturing and company priorities.

• Build Atticus' state and regional strategy. Identify priority states and regions based on legislative and regulatory activity, commercial importance, freedom-to-operate considerations and industry developments, and execute appropriate engagement strategies.

• Lead state and regional industry engagement. Build and maintain relationships with agricultural and industry associations, commodity and grower organizations, Farm Bureaus, agribusiness groups, chambers and other allied stakeholders.

• Represent Atticus where our presence matters. Independently represent the company at legislative and regulatory meetings, association conferences, industry committees, stakeholder discussions and other policy and industry forums, extending Atticus' reach when competing priorities require coverage in multiple places.

• Identify risk, opportunity and action. Monitor relevant legislative, regulatory, political and industry developments; assess their potential impact on Atticus and its customers; and provide concise, actionable recommendations to Government & Industry Affairs and company leadership.

• Develop advocacy strategies and coalitions. Work with policymakers, agricultural organizations, industry partners and other stakeholders to advance Atticus priorities and support sound public policy.

• Connect government affairs to the business. Partner across Legal, Regulatory, Commercial, Marketing, Operations and other functions to ensure external engagement reflects company priorities and that relevant developments are understood across One Atticus. Partner closely with Regulatory on state pesticide policy while maintaining clear distinction between policy advocacy and product registration or compliance responsibilities.

• Manage the state and regional portfolio. Maintain the stakeholder network, association engagement, issue tracking and external calendar needed to ensure Atticus remains proactive, coordinated and appropriately represented.

• Support broader Government & Industry Affairs priorities. Contribute to federal, national industry and other strategic initiatives where state, regional and national priorities intersect, and help manage outside government affairs resources as appropriate.

Required Skills/Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.

• Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, agriculture, agribusiness, state government, an agricultural association or a related field.

• Demonstrated experience working with state legislators, executive branch officials, government agencies and external stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of agriculture and the public policy environment affecting farmers, agribusiness and the crop protection industry.

• North Carolina government affairs experience and established relationships within the state's agricultural and policymaking communities strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to build coalitions and trusted relationships across government, agriculture and industry.

• Ability to independently and credibly represent Atticus with policymakers, regulators, industry leaders and external organizations.

• Strong political and business judgment, including the ability to identify what matters, distinguish signal from noise and recommend an appropriate course of action.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex issues into succinct, actionable recommendations.

• Self-directed, adaptable and accountable, with the ability to work effectively across functional disciplines in a dynamic, fast-moving business environment.

• Willingness to travel regularly throughout North Carolina and nationally in support of company priorities.
