This role in summaryWhirlpool is seeking a strategic and operationally-mindedDirector, Tax Operations to join our Global Tax Team. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the company's tax accounting, reporting, and compliance functions. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Global Tax, you will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of tax operations to ensure financial statement accuracy and global regulatory compliance.
This role is based onsite at our WoW Studios Office in Chicago. Located in the histroic Reid-Murdoch building, at the edge of the beautiful Chicago Riverwalk, WoW Studios and the World of Whirlpool host an immersive customer experience, inspiring audiences with Whirlpool Corporation's iconic brands.
Your responsibilities will include- Global Tax Accounting: Lead end-to-end quarterly and annual global income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740. Manage current and deferred tax calculations, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions. Analyze the ETR and perform return-to-provision true-ups. Monitor global tax legislation changes, assessing their impact and providing strategic recommendations. Partner with Tax Controversy to provide data and support for IRS and other audits.
- External Reporting & SEC Compliance: Direct the preparation and review of tax-related disclosures for Forms 10-Q and 10-K. Ensure compliance with reporting standards, such as ASU 2023-09. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors regarding tax provision and SOX controls. Mitigate risk by maintaining robust internal controls.
- Global Tax Compliance: Oversee the timely filing of all US Federal and state and non-US income tax returns. Manage tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring alignment between international tax provisions and local filings.
- Operational Excellence & Technology: Drive continuous process modernization with tax technology tools like ONESOURCE (OTP/OIT) and Alteryx. Partner with Finance, Treasury, and FP&A to provide accurate cash tax and GAAP tax forecasting. Support M&A activity, including tax due diligence and post-acquisition integration. Manage relationships with external tax consultants and auditors.
Minimum requirements- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 12+ years of progressive experience within a large multinational corporation or a top-tier accounting firm
- Deep technical proficiency in ASC 740 and U.S. Federal/State tax law.
- Strong process orientation, with the ability to co-design a sustainable, cost-effective target operating model for Tax Operations.
Preferred skills and experiences- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License
- At least 3 years in a significant leadership role.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems and tax provision software (e.g., Thomson Reuters OneSource Tax Provision (OTP) and/or Alteryx).
